I have a ton to do. My house is a mess, I'm on deadline with our Real Estate Guide, I still have a lot of loose ends to deal with for my antique show, pig pens need cleaned, 3 sick kids wanting attention . . . and instead I hole up and surf this forum!

Why is it when I get overwhelmed that is when my procrastination is the worst! It's like I can't deal with it all so I deal with nothing! Blah . . .

Anyone else deal with that or am I just "weird"?

Brenda

Thanks Lorij, the prayers are appreciated. It isn't a serious surgery . . . I have had Chronic Sinus stuff for years, so now they need to go in and remove extra "rabbit trails" my sinus's have invented, drill some other things and break my nose and re-set it. It all sounds ugly, but it is outpatient. But I guess it takes a good two weeks to bounce back and since my biggest issue is right by my eyes, it has to be pretty accurate. I am told I need to be very inactive for a while right after or I will get severe nose bleeds. The doctor seriously told me not to laugh . . . yeah, right . . . that is like telling a rabbit not to have babies! LOL! But I have been on anti-biotics since September and everytime I go off I get awful fevers within two days, so I know it needs to be done. I am not a big believer in anti-biotics, but I have tried all the natural remedies I know of, so now it is down to the surgery to cure it.

But anyway, I am forcing myself to start preparing and to also make sure I get things done early regarding my antique show in May, so that I don't get bombarded at the end. I know if I procrastinate I will be kicking myself when it gets down to the end.

Blessings to each of you!

I've said for years that if it weren't for deadlines, I'd never get anything done. and so true!!! I know when my husband leaves for Alaska when he'll be home and still scramble at the last minute getting the house clean and everything done. Ronna

I like your reward system, I use it myself. I think it is funny how we try to make everyday things exciting for ourslves.

Lorij, I think I am right in there with you. I need that gotta do it now push . . . like having two hours notice company is coming . . . to get things done. I am having surgery the 1st week in April, but do I begin getting meals ready ahead now, cleaning my house now, etc. since I won't feel up to for a while after the surgery. Heavens no . . . that would be far too sensible! LOL! So instead, knowing my Mom and some friends will stop by I will scamper around the night before and then probably guilt my husband that he doesn't help out enough. Just wish there was a way to make housework exciting!! I have tried the "Reward" system and it does help. Such as, if you fold two loads of laundry you can sit and watch a Litte House on the Prairie rerun. Or if I clean my living room I can have one extra dark truffle. So silly, but it does work.

oh gurlz ... when we 'procrastinate' .. simply see it as a 'sign' that we are 'supposed' to be doing something other than what we 'think we SHOULD be doing' ... that way .. we are in the right place doing the right thing at the right time ... ALWAYS!! (uhh .. or is that called 'rationalization'??? (works for ME!)

Oh, I like that perfectionist in disguise thing. I feel like if I come here to MJ's website i can get really good ideas that can inspire me to do great things...but there is laundry to fold, dishes to wash and floors to be swept. But imagining it is done and having fun with all of you seems a lot more inviting. I like to think we are all just helping each other out than procrastinating, but away I must go now...chores for the rest of today. I will see what happened here later on tonight.

*raising hand here* Guilty as charged. Yeah, I should be doing a lot of things. But I enjoy your company much more than the company of a broom, a vacuum, a dustcloth, etc. Y'all are ever so much more interesting.

Oh, and here's a hint for everyone who is also admitting to this. Once I heard an imminent psychologist say that procrastinators are really perfectionists in disguise. They're so concerned about the results of their efforts not being perfect that they delay endlessly so they don't have to confront imperfections. I find that's me; so I also find forgiving myself and accepting 'good enough' is much more healthy, and eases the procrastinating somewhat.

Brenda -- when I'm pressured I do exactly the same thing! Then I get mad at myself for procrastinating and the guilt cycle begins! Guess we need to quit being so hard on ourselves.

Brenda, your post had my ROFL!!!
Too fun-eeeeee! And why am I laughing so much? Because you sound a lot like me! I think a little procrastination here with the Farmgirls is pretty innocent stuff. I try to keep things from getting out of control by putting time limits on the various things I do to procrastinate. The other thing I do is to make sure that those activites are (mostly, anyway) positive in nature. And I would include hanging out here with the Farmgirls in that catagory.

Make lists, you get to sit a little longer and it helps to motivate you.

I'm in this very same boat, big time. Would you think a $9k new sewing machine would be enough incentive to clean out the sewing room? It's been in the closet waiting since last June and I still don't have it done. Get started and then have to put it all back before it's done...and never gets finished. I think some of it is the paperwork from mothers estate I still have to go through and get settled, but a lot is just plain laziness and procrastination. NOT one of my better traits and wish I could wave a magic wand and just ''git r done''
Always some excuse or reason and none are good enough for me to not feel guilty. Ronna

Hhmmmm . . . so what you're saying is that its a good thing when I'm here . . . like really deep down (so deep down I don't know it! LOL!) I am actually planning . . . well now, that changes everything!! It reminds me of that saying:

"I love housework . . . I could sit and look at it forever."

Seriously, though since my original post, I did force myself to clean the kitchen, and mail some important things and sort papers. I also did two loads of laundry. Just getting going is helping me to get motivated to do more. Sometimes when I am overwhelmed, just getting started seems too daunting, so it's like I am paralized by it. So silly! But I am not going to allow myself to do that this time . . .

Here I am . . . walking away from the computer . . . going to stop procrastinating . . . must continue working . . .

(I'll sneak back later!)

Well you know Brenda, you can't just rush into these things you have to do...you have to take your time, relax and make your plan of attack to get them done.

Di - that is sitting here when having to go clean, have a shower and go shopping after lunch.
