Posted - May 28 2018 : 09:26:30 AM Ok, I have a ton of yard/garden work to do,, and have the whole day ahead of me,, so, early this morning, still in my Pj's and a mug of coffee,, I settled back in my comfy chair and read from cover to cover a 1961 edition of a 'Nancy Drew mystery, The Mystery at Lilac Inn'. I channeled my in 12 year old girl, and enjoyed reading... and you know what,, it was fun to go back to a simpler time, the style of writing, the use of wordage and no vulgar language or context. Call me prudish, but it was a sweet read, perfect for a 12 year old stuck in a 60 something's year old's body...[:
I found this copy at a rummage sale for .50cents.. now to search for a few more volumes.. I checked out ebay and amazon,, but I am not of the mind set to spend the kind of money that is being asked... so I will continue to peek in the book isles of Thrifts and rummage sales. I would like to share these with my grand girls when they get a few years older... and maybe even a few Hardy Boys books for my grand-son. Well now to get dressed and go play outside,,, I mean, work outside... lol!

Posted - May 29 2018 : 11:07:29 AM Grace, I have a lot of the very old black and gray version. I have not purchased any from ebay. Too much $$ I just watch at yard sales and thrift stores for them. I love rereading the old books. Just imagining who had them when they were new and if they were the only owners or how many people have read the ones I now own. I didn't even know about Nancy Drew until I was grown with my own children. I love them just as much as my children did.

Posted - May 29 2018 : 08:43:25 AM I loved Nancy Drew. I know I haven't read them all, but read quite a few in my Jr. High days. And I also read some later in life when I could read through one in just a couple hours. I love them. Glad you found one, Grace.

Posted - May 28 2018 : 4:35:35 PM I read every Nancy Drew mystery I could get my hands. I now have a few of them, including the first one, "The Secret of the Old Clock"> I have two of that one, one is the original copyright date of 1930 gifted to me by my sister-in-law. When I was in jr.hi/high school I was very much into mysteries and started writing some of my own mystery stories. Of course, I don't have any of those any longer . . . I still love a good mystery!
