Hello friends. Has anyone else ever fallen off the farmgirl wagon? I did. Several years ago, in the midst of living my very own farmgirl dreams, the bottom fell out. A good friend betrayed my trust, and It set me adrift in so many ways. Suddenly set free from my responsibilities of running our farmers market, too hurt to remain as a seller, disappointed by a person I felt close to and trusted, I found myself lost without a purpose. I let the garden go. Raccoons got the chickens, and I didn't replace them. I stopped baking, stopped my raw milk delivery, threw the clothes in the dryer, and moved on. I was lost, unhappy, and I now know, depressed. It has been a long slow road back, and many things in my life have changed, but recently, I dusted off my copy of the Lifebook, cracked it open, and suddenly felt like I had come home.
So I'm excited to be back here on the forums, seeing what others are up to, and getting back in touch with my farmgirl sisters. I look forward again to starting seeds for spring, getting a few new chicks, and I've started cooking from scratch again. My girls are older, so my home dynamic has changed, but I look forward to my own journey from here, once again embracing the genuine version of myself who got lost there for awhile.

I lost my way about twenty years ago when my mother committed suicide. It was very difficult to get over. It was years before I could feel really happy again, and it still haunts me. I had to keep going as we were busy building a house and other buildings on our land. But I didn't really care about any of it. Today I am myself again and very happy. Five years ago my sister betrayed me by making fun of my farm lifestyle on Facebook. That really hurt and set me back a bit. It has made me a much stronger person because of what I have been through. It's true that time heals what has hurt us.

Shari, I'm glad you're back too. It's definitely easy to stray away from our authentic selves when we are hurt and overwhelmed by others.
Last year I abandoned my garden, something I had never done, because I was overwhelmed by a couple of rude neighbors. Over the winter i've been working on how i react to certain situations, and have resolved never to allow the situation here to get to me again. It's terrible how others actions can change how we feel about ourselves, or to temp give up who we are. Never again.
I've been outside planting seed, and getting the garden ready, and I feel positive and content, all the while knowing that there will be challenges again this summer with certain neighbors. But, at this point I feel sorry for them that they feel the need to be inconsiderate, I think that they must not be truly happy people, or just selfish.
You are certainly correct about the Lifebook, it certainly does make you feel like home, and it reminds me of who I am, and who I further aim to be. Never again will I allow anyone to cause me to stray from my true self. I also hate the negativity, and I now make a major effort in how I respond to it, so I will remain happy. It's been trying at times, but I'm proud in the progress i've made, and feel better that I too have 'found my way back' to what fulfills me. I truly believe that only a miserable person would want to make someone else miserable. People like this are cut out of my life, and quickly. As far as the neighbors, we only have 2 years left here, that's what I keep reminding myself, and it makes it more bearable.
Here's to a new and happy year for all of us, and staying true to who we are!!

I was just getting to send almost the same thing. I dropped out about 5 years ago. My hubby and I were traveling the country as I worked as a travel nurse, and LOVING it. My father got Alzheimer's. I quit my job and moved to be near Dad. It took me 8 months to find a new job as Dad got sicker and sicker. It was nothing but stressful. Long story shorter...I was already depressed, broke and overwhelmed. Dad passed away and I fell apart. I didn't expect that...we knew Dad was dying and I am a nurse. I thought I was prepared. I dropped out of everything but work for years. It strained our marriage.
I am so happy to say that the friends I made in this forum didn't give up on me...they called and sent me notes and I felt so blessed.Their caring for me, and keeping in touch sustained me. Thank you for not giving up on me.
It is 5 years later. I retired as a nurse last year. I am now a Certified Life Coach and a Grief Recovery Specialist. I have more time with my husband and we couldn't be happier. I have had 3 months at my daughter's farm and lots more time with my grandgirls and grandson. I love what I do and feel Gods grace daily. I live in Florida and get to the beach often. My favorite aunt bought a mobile home that backs up to mine so I even have family here. I am happy.
So I am back, and anxious to catch up with the gals I used to know and anxious to meet all of you who are new. SO grateful to be here. Joey

Welcome Home Shari! I too have been through the exact same thing and left the farm to find myself and forgive myself as well as others for the hurt and pain. Coming back to the farm reconnecting with old friends and making new friends has at times been hard but the journey is so worth it. I love the farm and Farmgirl Sisters and need them in my life or else I would feel lost. Letting go was hard, but I forgot the past and am now moving forward.
I am so happy now to be back and I know you will be too, there is so much support, love and caring here and all of us are here for you.

Welcome back Shari! You know the song Amazing Grace and the line 'once was lost but now I am found'?? That is kind of like that only at a different level of my 'spiritual walk'!! I moved out to the country, not a sole around but distant neighbors, art shows were terribly discouraging and very clicky (as Tiana said) and my husband worked overseas for lengthy periods of time. I was getting pretty lonely and discouraged until I grabbed a Mary Jane magazine and began to read it from front to back, next time it came out another and that's is when I joined this group of AMAZING women!! I was 'grounded' so to speak; Nourished by the divine sisterhood and friendships of everyone as well as soaking in the knowledge of experience! My confidence was increasing as I utilized the things I learned here, experimented, and reached out to others finding some of the most incredibly loyal and loving 'friendships among these ladies! Now I am taking on farmgirl adventures with little or no intimidation and my husband is so proud of me! I love sharing my art and it is way more satisfying than selling it at the market! :) So, as long winded as that was for me, I so wish you great success, great friendships, great love and again, welcome BACK!!! Xx

Hi Shari! I was just about to post a very similar post and discovered yours. I have not been active with mary Hanes farm for a long time too. Too many deaths in my small family, betrayal at a job I had held for 38 years I too fall into a deep depression and quit doing a lot of things. But last week I picked up the latest issue of MJFarm and really took a look at it. It was amazing how much better it made me feel. I gathered up my years of magazines and started going through all of them, joined a swap,placed an order for more MJ Farm (to be used in arts and crafts-could not use up and not replace copies). Welcome back Shari! I fell off the farmgirl wagon a few years ago just after joining. Life. Lots of hurts, ups and downs, loss and illness, etc. And to add to that, depression, but, I am glad I found my way back to this farmgirl family this week. I am trying to find my way back to 'functioning' again too. I have been married for 38 years and I am Mother to four sons, three of which are grown and on their own. I am facing an empty nest this spring as well. Its hard since my life has revolved around children for the past 32+ years. I am trying to find purpose in my life and I am beginning here at MJFGs! Getting involved again has given me motivation. I am starting small and just trying to reconnect. I don't do animals or garden much. I do craft and sew and sit with my wonderful 8 mo old grandson who has brought new meaning to my life. I am also the family genealogist. Bless you as you begin this new journey in your life!

Shari, welcome back. I was gone a few years myself for different reasons. We bake and do the farmers markets. I have found they can be very clicky and just like grade school there are bulllies. I had a good friend from our market talking badly about us. (jealous). I just cut her out of our life. We don't do negativity. I have no room for it in my life. I'm so happy that your back, and doing better. Just send a message if you want to talk. Their are good people out there, that is who we need to cultivate in our lives.
