took us 8 hurs of straight driving in blizzard conditions (lots of 'white outs' as the wind whipped the snow across the interstate at gale force)! but we arrived 'safe and sound' .. and actually, never passed an accident .. several cars and trucks had slid off the road though!

just got home from taking the 'boys' to the airport for their grande adventure in poland. we're snuggled back home baking Valentine Cookies for Lucas' class at school tomorrow.

Gosh! It is so great to have these chilluns (the big'guns and the littlest ones in our arms again!

hope you are all keeping WARM! xo, frannie

Hi Frannie! My 7 year old and I have been reading the Magic Tree House books too! Along with the actual series, they now have "learning" books to go with them- about whatever topic is happening to the kids in the book. And there are two kind of circular series that go with it... They are pretty good books!

Have you tried reading Junie B. Jones with them? She's another of our favs. The author is Barbara Parks...

I'm hoping to do some dollmaking this weekend. After emailing you a couple of weeks ago (thanks for the reply... I'll be sure to send pics as soon as they're birthed!), I decided to turn my laundry room into a craft room, so that took over my time. Maybe that will get done this weekend too.

Take care! It's getting warmer here in the South. Maybe it'll be real Spring when you return.

FRANNIE,
Sounds like you have been keeping real busy, I bet you all do miss the men, I know I would.
Would love to see pictures of what you have made so far, when are we going to get to do that?

the other book smells so MUSTY! but i just had to have it! the 'folk art painting of a FARM on the cover grabbed my attention. It is: The Good Old Days .. An Invitation to Memory ... A agic re-creation in text and pictures of the era of the family farm and its nearby village .. a vanished way of life that constitued the backbone of our nation and provides a goodly portion of our living heritage". (I thought of all the FarmGurlz when I saw it .. I started reading it and just knew i had to add it to my collection of books. (I'll start a new 'thread' in the BOOKS section and write excerpts from it! xo

well now .. i wuzn't finished!!! one ofthe books is called: Dolls and Dollmakers .. it starts with "The Ealiest Dolls" .. Iloved this:

Shakespeare, with a double reference to the RAG DOLL of childhood and the adult "dolls" of dalliance, wrote:

THIS IS NO WORLD
TO PLAY WITH MAMETS AND TO TILT WITH LIPS"

Thereis a photo of a 2,000 year old Egyptian doll with ncredible beaded clay hair. And a most wonderfl Peruvian dolls made with woven textile and clay and sticks. And it continues with dolls made right up to modern times. DOLLS are so wonderful! I sometimes wonder why 'dolls' just grab my heart! (I remember my most favorites being (1) a 'tiny tears' .. and (2) a large baby doll that my own mother left on the front porch for me one mysterious christmas morning. xo

yeterday .. after dropping the chilluns off at the other grammie's house) .. and oh my gosh gurlfrenz! what a MANSION she lives in ... you could fit our cabins in her basement! not at all my 'tastes' .. but nevertheless 'lovely'.
our daughter's mother in law is such a beautiful and sweet woman .. i feel so blessed that she has such a wonderful 'other mother' here close to her and the children!

well, anyhoo .. i had an afternoon 'free' .. so .. i met wednesday and we had deeeeeeeelicious LEBANESE food .. then i roamed around and visited a couple 'quilt shoppes' .. and met a woman who owns a darling 'tea room' .. and is starting to present 'tea parties' .. so we talked a lot about ideas. THEN .. i happened upon a large antiques shoppe ... and mostly looked for vintage fabric (i LOVE using vintage fabrics on my dollies) .. it is sooooooooo very difficult to find wonderful olde 1800's homespuns (that don't cost an arm and a leg!) ... but i got three beautiful victorian era petti-slips ... one woman's .. one child's and one baby! I cut the baby one up and made dolly 'aprons' .. and still have some left over .. am going to make a 'larger' doll and dress her in the rest of it. i also go about a dozen olde Martha Stewart Magazines .. chock full of fantastic 'craft' projects! And two books ..

THURSDAY ... angel-pie is sleeping .. i've snuggled her onto the sofa so she is nearby while i sew dollies! i've made over a dozen since being here! (some of the 'bodies' were already made) ..but i've dressed them .. make 'accessories' (including pantaloons and aprons and dresses for them) .. given them hair and faces .. AND .. i made half a dozen 'bunnie gurlz' too! AND .."KITS" for two upcoming tea parties. sometimes it is a 'good thang' to get snowed in with the chilluns .. some good video movies and your sewing machine!

only 6 days t'il the boyz come home .. we are missing them like crazy! they have travelled extensively all over poland .. and i think they, too, are getting homesick for their family!!!

i'm sure going to miss wapping my arms around these little ones every day when we head back to kentucky! xo

good sunday morning! it snowed about an inch last night here in toledo .. but the sun is shining brightly. sofia and i are making dollies today while wednesday and lucas go to the "Y" for some swimming and shooting 'hoops'.

heard from 'the boyz' again this morning (they are 6 hours FASTER than us time-wise. they said they are seeing 500 to 1,000 year old buildings (along with McDonalds and KFC!!

they visited the Warsaw Ghetto .. and several other holocaust death camps in the last few days. POWERFUL feelings!

we watched "Cast Away" last night on TV. Wednesday usually does not let Lucas watch any films with violence in them .. but grammie was watching it so he snuggled in beside me .. it made him VERY lonesome for his daddy though!

what have you gurlze been up to on his lovely sunday?

Frannie- you must be in heaven there. And it sounds like the "boys" are going to have a wonderful time. I think it's so cool that you can travel like you do and see the things that interest you. It sure is keeping you young! Keep us posted on all of your adventures.

oh ..i have to tell you something so sweet .. when i walked upstairs while frankie was packing .. i saw him tuck one of sofia's little baby hats and the top to lucas' pajamas in his suitcase (he said so he can 'smell' his children. (i learned later that lucas tucked a pair of his own socks into his dad's suitcase). what a sweet, sweet family this is. xoxo

Yep, you can go all the way to Africa, but try and get to Ohio!! Glad you made it there, and Hank and son in law got off on time. Are they in POLAND NOW?
I bet little Sofia has those little chubby legs and arms by now with the creases, such a cute age.

good morning! it is a cold, crispy .. but very SUNNY morning here in Toledo today. Wednesday called me and said the roads are better than yesterday! She's at work, Lucas is in Scool, Sofia is sleepng like an Angel .. soooo.. I have a few minutes 'computer time'. Going to pick Lucas up today at 11:30 and he,, Sofia and I are heading for the BOOK STORE. I have been reading him the "Magic Tree House" book series by Mary Pope Osborne. They are wonderful for his age (and up) .. adventure, fun, just enough 'scary' .. but not toooo scary! This woman has a 'great thing' going! Instead of putting all these 'adventures' iin ONE big bokk for about $25. She has made 'mini-books' out of them .. each chapter being a $4.00 book .. and I think there are at least 40 books in the series so far .... hmmmmm ... $160. so far. Never in my wildest dreams would I pay this much for ONE big book .. but .. I seem to have NO PROBLEM going and getting FOUR at a time for $16.00!!! GREAT MARKETING! But we are soo much enjoying reading these books together. The hero and heroinne are children named: Jack and Annie. I have taken 'white out' and changed all the Jack's to LUC and all the Annie's to SOFI. I changed Pennsylvania (where they are from) to OHIO .. and they live off a creek (don't remember the name .. cuz' I've whited them all out and written SWAN Creek over it .. (which is a creek/park that their home backs up to! He loves it when he finds a "Jack" or "Annie" that I missed .. and I let him white it out and write Luc or Sofi when he finds it .. i also love that he is recognizing so many words and repeat phrases that show up form book to book .. and Lucas always 'reads' those! A sweet 'grammie' memory.

Well, chilluns, I hear some 'baby-talk' coming from the next room .. so .. i'm offa' hear to go 'play'! xoxo

Wow, Frannie -- So glad you made it through the storm. We had the storm here yesterday in Chicago area. Part of Lake Shore Drive was closed for a few hours, even -- a very very rare occurrence -- because of the white-out conditions.

So glad you're there to snuggle with all the children (big and small)!
