gurlfrenz .. i wrote to you all late last summer
about this fun annual event here in my home-town
and some of you responded that you would like to be a part of the festivities!
soooooooo .. i am starting to plan a 'gurlfren gathering' for the weekend of our
Art in the Alley.
lodging is very limited in our small quaint town .. so this will have to be on a 'first-come' basis.
here's the 'skinny' on it so far and more fun will be conjured as time marches on!
I am hoping to introduce "PRIMITIVE" into our community and hope all you primitive-makin'-lovin' gurlfrenz will come and bring your 'wares' to 'strut our stuff' at this year's festival!
Art in the Alley is a 'hometown' show and sale
of original arts and crafts. It is a 'judged' show .. sooo .. I will need
for you to e-mail me photos of samples of what you will be selling.
Booths are 10 x 10 .. and if anyone has a nice 'covered' tent .. that would be great if you could bring it .. if not .. i'll try and conjure up some for us. I thought maybe three or four of us could share each booth. Of course, we will want to make our 'decor' as primitive as possible .. i have lotsa' things to choose from for our booths .. both at our cabins and in my shoppes in Greensburg and in Bardstown that we can use .. but if you have 'favorite' things to display on .. bring 'em along!
Booths are $40. ($10. extra for electricity .. but i'm thinkin' with primitive .. we won't need electricity .. it is a daytime show .. 9:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.0 AND .. if we commit to a booth with our payment a month before the show (and it IS non-refundable .. cuz' expenses are incurred upon commitment) it is only $30.00 per booth for the whole day! Soooooooo .. i figger .. if three or four of us share a booth .. that is $10.00 or less each! ('can't beat that with a stick' ...
as my nannie usta' say!!)
There are only FOUR log cabins in town .. and we must reserve them RIGHT AWAY .. before they are gobbled up by other vendors!! Two cabins hold 4 guests .. and two cabins hold 6 guests. I would say plan on paying about $15. per night/per person. A tad more if there are fewer in each room .. and a tad less if there are more! IF we don't get these cabins .. there is a hotel in Campbellsville .. which is about 12 miles from downtown Greensburg. The cost of a room up there will probably be a little more than the cabins!
The Cabins are great! Comfy, clean, basic. I believe bedding is included .. i think there is a small fridge and microwave in each cabin. One bathroom. Bunk beds. No kitchen supplies are in them .. but we have a few 'fast order' restaurants nearby and several restaurants on main street just a couple blocks away .. within walking distance.
This will be the third year of our Art in the Alley .. and each year, our list of vendors grow and as word spreads each year .. more and more visitors attend the show! I don't expect we will have THOUSANDS of visitors .. but always there are several HUNDRED!
Other fun events are always planned for the day too .. we have musicians playing throughout the day .. there is always a nice little 'thank you gift bag' for each booth .. and we get you goin' in the morning with complimentary coffee and home-baked muffins! And we plan fun arts projects for the children!
AND .. don't forget .. we will surely buy and trade our primitive home-mades from each other too!!!
Price range: My suggestions for more sales is to keep your items at or under about $30. As at all 'festivals' and 'shows' .. we tend to look for good stuff at good prices .. and I think people tend to buy MORE things at lower prices.
So ya-ya's .. if you wanna' come play .. call me or e-mail me RIGHT AWAY! And if you wish to make your commitment .. please send me TWO non-refundable checks.
For the Art Show: $15.00
(that amount is based on TWO gurlz sharing a booth .. could be less if more share).
IF you wish to have a booth of your own .. that is o.k. too .. just send your $30. right away and let me know you want your own booth.
LODGING at the CABINS along the Green River in Greensburg:
$15.00 per night/per person.
I'm not sure of the nightly rate on these cabins for 2007 .. but will check into that. IF you wish to bring family or friends and wish to rent a cabin for yourselves .. please include $15. EACH for the small cabins .. for FOUR people.
Small cabins: $60. per night (you can just divide that amount among the guests you will bring .. but be sure to send me a check for $60. per night for the small cabins.
IF it is "less" .. I will reimburse you the difference once the cabin is paid in full.
I would like to keep the larger cabins for 'singles' .. girls who WILL BE setting up and selling at the Art Show. Please also send $15. per night for the larger cabins .. if fewer than 6 sign up .. it might be a little more than $15. each per night.
Any way you add it up .. it is still a VERY reasonable rate to pay for lodging!
Make BOTH checks payable to ME: Frannie Meshorer .. I will deposit all of them .. write appropriate checks for both your booth fee and lodging .. and keep a good accounting of any monies owed to you or me.
I can't take 'credit cards' .. and prefer to not take 'money orders' .. soooo .. save those pennies up and send them via check, please.
BE SURE TO WRITE AT THE BOTTOM OF EACH CHECK WHAT THE CHECK IS FOR:

We will definitely all want the cabins for Friday, June 8th
(the night before the show)
IF you wish to come on Thursday and spend Thursday night too .. we will all have dinner together that evening in town.
IF you wish to also spend Saturday night .. so as to not have to head home after the show (which ends at 5:00 p.m. .. and 'break-down' is not allowed until that time) .. let me know that too.
Remember .. if there are fewer people in the cabins on Thursday and Saturday night .. the cost might be a little higher per person.
NOW .. with all the un-fun money matters settled ..
let's get down to the 'fun' of GATHERING together!
Tentatively, here are some ideas for our 'free time':
REMEMBER ... GREENSBURG AND ALL OUR EVENTS ARE ON 'SLOW TIME' .. (CENTRAL) .. SOOO .. IF YOU ARE ON 'FAST TIME' .. SET YOUR WATCHES BACK AN HOUR!!
Arrive Thursday ... I will give you all day Thursday to get here at your own leisure. We will meet at the Cabins at 5 p.m. and all go out to dinner together. If you get to town by 4:00 p.m. you can pick up your cabin key at City Hall .. if you get here after 4:00 p.m. .. I will meet you at the cabins by 4:30 p.m. with your keys.
Soooo .. Thursday evening will be 'meet and greet' and have dinner together somewhere in town.
FRIDAY morning .. we will all meet at Cabin Creek Farm (12 miles outside of town) .. for a 'light breakfast' .. and a little 'hanging out together' time.
About 11:00 a.m. .. we will head for Greensburg .. hit the shoppes (Glovers' Station Antiques Shoppe and the Plaid Peacock) .. I'll see if I can get us a tour of our olde Courthouse (the OLDEST Courthouse west of the Allegheny Mountains!!) Walk to our Circle of Friends Community Garden and amble across our fun 'footbridge'. We'll run over to City Hall to maybe meet our handsome Mayor .. and to see our brand-new wonderful library!
Then have lunch at Lucy Tucker's adorable Tea Room Restaurant!
All of the above are within walking distance of each other.
Then we'll pile in our cars and head five miles out of town to visit the adorable Kathy at her Cobblestone Farms Flower and Gift Farm!!!
Friday evening, we'll get into the festive mood and set up our tents with all the other venders! Dinner somewhere in town that evening!
Up bright and early Saturday morning to display our 'treasures' in our booths! We'll take turns running around town and checking out the other events and hanging together in our booth meetin' and greetin' the visitors in town .. and selling our wonderfuls!
OH .. and if you wish to 'demonstrate' any primitive craft .. please, bring supplies to do so! THIS WOULD BE GREAT if several of us did this during the day!! Seems to always attract attention to a booth and helps boost sales too! If this is something you would like to do .. let me know what craft skill you will be demonstrating.
Saturday evening after the show .. we can maybe gather back at the Cabins for picnic lunches (we can order pizza or chinese or chicken or burgers from local restaurants!) For those of us who will be spending Saturday night .. we can stay up all night 'crafting' ... more demonstrations for each other .. bring kits to share if you wish .. or just something you are working on!
SUNDAY .. if you can stay part of the day on Sunday .. we can start by all going to Rev. Charlie's Church in the morning .. Presbyterian .. and my second favorite man in town!! We can have breakfast at our local 'country club' .. believe me .. it is very low-key .. nuthin' fancy .. country and wonderfully friendly!
THEN .. i will take you all to BARDSTOWN for some Sunday Shopping! Kathy Anthony's incredible SUGAR BUCKET ANTIQUES is there .. and Pamela and I have a room with antiques in the attic: "Two Crows in the Attic" .. there are also other sweeeeeeeeeet shoppes in Bardstown .. and a most wonderful log cabins musuem. I 'll have to check to see if they are open on Sunday .. but even if they aren't .. a visit to Sugar Bucket and Lunch in Bardstown is well-worth the trip.
We can then at about mid-afternoon .. give hugs and kisses and each be on our way to our own 'home sweet home'.
Remember .. the spaces are very limited .. soooo .. I sure hope to hear from each and every one of you as soon as possible with your commitment to join us for this fun long-weekend event! Even if you can't be here Thursday through Sunday .. any or all of these days it would be wonderful to have you with us.
I'm sorry that I won't have time to do 'airport' runs for this event .. cuz' the airport is an hour away from me .. and i'll be busy with the Arts Festival events before and after our gathering.
