I love music and got a guitar back when I was 18. Not the greatest but I still like to strum a tune now and then. Then a few years ago I got a hand drum. Love percussion. BUT recently I got back into old timely music. I have a mt. dulcimer and a 15 chord autoharp. I saw a second hand 21 chord autoharp on a thrift store sight. I was the high bidder and won it. When it arrived I tried to tune it on my own but couldn't. I have a friend that is an expert on dulcimer and autoharp. He just emailed me to inform me it's ready for pick up. Can't wait to get it. I thought playing the autoharp would be hard but it is rather easy.

My Shylo isn't a fan of my singing or playing either. I think she a little jealous because she thinks everything is here or for her first and if I am not giving her my full attention....well that is not permitted on Planet Shylo.

Hi Everyone
I got it back tonight! My friend couldn't make it last night so he came by my office today to bring it back to me. He got it all cleaned and tuned. He also rearranged the buttons in a more modern pattern. He grouped the I, IV and V of each key together so I don't have to reach too far. What that means is The ones that sound good together are nearby The only problem is I have to retrain my fingers. They used to a different route.

Marie, what a lovely memory with your Pop

What I like about the autoharp is that a person can change out the chord felts for different songs. I was selected to play an autoharp in concert with a bunch of other kids. I was given the school's autoharp which was kind of beaten up. My dad and I polished it up and reattached the loose parts putting it in better shape for the concert. It is a fascinating instrument. I wish I had known more about it then.

Sounds like you are very talented. Music makes people really happy and the old instruments impress people.

When I was wayyyyyyy back in elementary school, our music teacher traveled from classroom to classroom and she brought her autoharp with her! I was just fascinated with her and with her instrument. We learned lots of American folk songs, and the autoharp was the perfect accompaniment. Sometimes it was so hard for me to concentrate on singing, because I was watching her fingers on the keys and while she strummed. Thanks for bringing up a fine fine memory!

Thank you all. I should make a you tube video if I find my nerve. The autoharp is the original Chord Buddy for those of you that watch Shark Tank. You only have to
Know basic chords and push that button. Of course you have to be coordinating with your other hand to strum or pluck because it isn't there for looks. It can be strummed or plucked. The only sad part is my friend won't let me pay him. Before he offered I got quotes no less than $200. What a pal! I love old timely gospel but I have seen all genre play. Well maybe not hip hop. Well 6 hrs and counting till it is here. Buzzz, darn, my timer just went off. Gotta to get back to work
