I am a Autumn/Spring kinda gal...
I love Autumn for it's slowing down, cool crispness time of year...
For me, Autumn starts in November... mostly by tradition,,, my family and friends in Germany celebrate this time of year with Lebkuchen (a spiced gingerbread type of cookie,,,and as we say in Germany, 'Lecker' (delish!)...
And we celebrate with a warmed spiced red wine w/a wedge of an orange,,, 'Gluhwein' after a hardy dinner....
Thou I can make my own,,, I do treat myself to pre-made Gluhwein when I can find it at World Market/cost plus as well as Trader Joes...
In Germany you can make it with the spices or buy 'spiced teabags' that you steep in the wine as it is warming... not hot,,, just nice and warm...
I bought a couple of bottle this past Monday when hubby and I went down the mountain to market in town... Saturday I'll make goulash and pasta and we'll have the Gluhwine and some Lebkuchen... I can hardly wait for the weekend to get here!

The rains have let up and we are back into the high 60/low 70... wish it were a tad cooler...

oh and fyi,,, yes I snuck into the box of Lebkuchen,,, just couldn't wait... lol!
Zum Voll! (to your health)...

Hey Nini... we woke up to a good frost on the ground... thank goodness I wrapped my young citrus trees yesterday ...
Beings it pretty much stayed in the low 60's all day... I hunkered down in my sewing room...
finished 1 pillowcase and 2 aprons.. all 3 are gifts... now to finish sewing seed beads to some cashmere neck scarves I stitched up the other day...

When you bake those lebkuchen... send me a doggie bag!! Lol!

Yes, we have had a couple of nights of frost, too. Woke up in the mornings to find what looked like a light coating of snow! But by the end of the day it had warmed up enough that you didn't really need more than a sweater or light jacket outside. I am so ready for the full-fall effect. I am even ready for - dare I say it? - snow! LOL! I plan on canceling every appointment, every event, every everything and just hunkering down and enjoying quiet time at home!

I had never heard of Gluhwein until we watched a PBS special a few years ago... And I love Lebkuchen, but have never made it! Maybe this year it will snow so I can cancel everything and bake to my hearts content! ;). ;). ;). Meantime, please enjoy a little for me, too - and stay warm!!! I remember hearing somewhere a long time ago that the reason there is so much spice in Lebkuchen and gingerbread is because the spices were thought to raise the body temperature and keep one warm! Cookies to keep warm? I am IN! LOL!

Hugs -

That all sounds so nice, and I would need that candle holder to make everything perfect.

Grace- I love the traditions you posted! Isn't it amazing how tastes or smells from our past bring back so many great memories? I think that is why so many people like to have the same traditional meals on certain holidays- tying the past and present strands of memory together!

Sounds delicious! What a wonderful tradition. Enjoy your autumn. If you are planning a trip to IL , Chicago's Christkindlmarket will be at the Naper Settlement for the first time ever, November 25 thru December 18! That is 5 minutes from my house, so let me know if you want to go!
