I just came home from seeing Miss Potter. What an absolutely beautiful film! The scenery was breathtaking. They captured that soft, full light in England perfectly. Renee Zellweger was adorable as Beatrix. She brought such depth to her portrayal of this amazing woman. Her parents were just "spot on" as they would say and the woman who played Miss Wiggin, Beatrix's chaperone, was just low-key hilarious. Ewan McGregor- perfect. Emily Watson- brilliant. The drawings- enchanting. Especially when they "came to life." Everything about this movie made me want to go back to England and head North to the Lake District!! Even the sheep that dotted the hillsides added to the feel of this film. Through the joy of her books being published, to the sorrow of losing someone she loved to her triumph at being an independent woman and farmer- every second wrapped me up in a warm blanket. When it finished, I wanted to turn around and buy another ticket right then! If Miss Potter comes to your area, RUN to see it! It is a true Farmgirl film!!
Can you tell I liked it a lot?

Karin

It sounds wonderful! I will probably wait until it comes to DVD and then have a "girls night" and watch it with friends. I have never been to england, but am always so drawn to it when I watch or read up on it. I married an Englishman . . . my last name is Buckingham! . . . so maybe someday I can visit! Thanks for the great recommendation!

Hugs & blessings,

Brenda

Had to get this one on DVD and glad I did. Loved the clothing, the decor and scenery. Rennee Zellweger did such a good job...she is indeed a talent!
Hope Hollywodd does more of these kind of movies...would love to see more Civil War-homefront movies come out. I still do not think Hollywood has done enough to capture that time period in our history, with the exception of "Cold Mountain."
I read some of what my ancestors endured at home, the women folk that were left behind in Arkansas, Missouri, etc. and their life was HARD. With their men off to fight, they had to raise what they eat all on their own. Things like a sewing needle were precious commodities. Sometimes only one being in a community to be shared. Oh, I could on and on about this topic.

I hesitate to see Becoming Jane. My friends are going to have to watch it and tell me if I'll like it or not. I'm highly critical of anything done about Jane Austen because I love her works so much and don't want her character to be tainted.

Karin,

I wholly agree. DD, sis and I saw it a few weeks ago and loved it. Another that should be on your movie list is "Becoming Jane", about Jane Austen. Wonderful movie, but as one of the few older gentlemen in the audience said - "a chick flick". Nice to see that more decent movies are coming out.

I'm so glad I watched it because I really had no idea what kind of a tough life she had. The hardships she endured....but still kept on going! I have always loved her work but love it even more now! Susan

Oh my goodness, Karin, you could be a film critic! I had the same reactions as you did; luckily it was in the theaters BRIEFLY while we were in Norfolk this spring so I took my mom (in the rain no less, how British was THAT, ha?) Choked back the tears along with everybody else around us. Then on the plane going back to France a month later, it was one of the feature films, so I watched it again....TWICE! Going to hint around at Christmas time, ha! So heartwarming, funny, touching, and her happiness later in life certainly trumped her heartache at losing her true love. Karin is "spot on"! Truly a must see. Nance

We just loved this movie. We rented it a few weeks ago. I told my dd I am going to buy it. She said she didn't want me to because it made her cry. She loves Ewan McGregor. I have not yet purchased it yet but I plan to. It was excellent!

I watched the movie on PPV on our satelite system. Missed it when it came out to the movie theater (besides DH considers that a "chick" flick and wouldn't have gone anyway). Loved it too. Everything about it was great. Love Renee Z. anyway, and this was so different from her "Diary" movies. She is a wonderful actress. The story line made you cry, laugh, cry again and say to yourself thankgoodness for happy ending.

Peace and love.

I just watched it and I CRIED!!!! Oh how sad. Oh my goodness. It was such a dear movie. I have the book about her life and her lands. It's a very very beautiful place. She was an awesome woman. She really told those men just exactly where she stood and she protected those farmlands from being parceled out. I think that God blessed her with her talents and strengths just so that she could do that. What a glorious place.

I keep looking for it but it's not playing here yet! I've got the bok based on the movie but I want to se it sooooooo bad. Thanks for sharing it w/ us. It makes me want to see it even more. My daughter told me I only want to see it because it's "English" & the scenery. Partly true, I love anything english ( I am) & I saw on the trailers the scenery was beautiful. Can't wait till it gets here.

Can't wait to see this - it starts here in Australia next week. Glad that it is as good as the subject matter deserves, although Renee Zellweger is so good - I've loved everything I've seen her in, especially Cold Mountain.
