Hi, we live in Michigan and my whole family is trying to decide what to do when we go to the grand canyon this july. We have never been to Arizona and that area. So, I am hoping people who either live out there or have gone to the grand canyon could give me some help. My son is making the real plans, getting an Rv we can all share and all pay for and then I know my grand daughter wants to go on the mule ride. As, I was just looking about that we will just be going on the short ride cause to pay 500+ is not in our budget. But other than that does anyone like a certain RV park out there. If it is not on the grand canyon area do they have shuttles to take you over to the grand canyon? Any info anyone could help us with would be wonderful.

I think we have decided to go at another time when it won't be so hot. So, we have changed our plans a bit. I thank everyone for their info, it was very nice of all of you!

Alright so my family went to the south rim, since we were coming up from Sedona. The park was busy but not crowded, and we were able to get in free because my grandma who was with us had a national park pass for seniors. Otherwise I think it's $30/car and I'm not sure about other vehicles.

There are plenty of gift shops and restaurants there, I was thinking it would be really pricey but we ate at the Yavapai Lodge for about $12/person. Keep an eye out for elk, because there are lots of them, they don't shy away from the human areas, and they're huge! We thought they were moose at first haha!

If you're able to, there are a few places where trails start to go down into the canyon, and it's really neat to walk just a little bit below the surface of it. There's a lookout tower at the easternmost tip of the park that provides an excellent view, and quite a few places near it to pull out and take pictures that are not as busy as the rest of the park.

Have a good trip!

There is a RV park in the canyon on the south rim and they run shuttles to and from the rim. We RV'd there last October. Google RV parks south rim Grand Canyon and it will show up. Sedona and Oak Creek Canyon are a must see and Slide Rock there is so much fun. It will be very hot in that area in July so plan wisely.

Beverly, If you contact the FLagtaff KOA I bet they can answer that question for you, or at least refer you to someone who can.

Thanks for all the info. Do you know if we rv'ed camped in flagstaff do they have any shuttles to the grand canyon? We were trying not to have to rent a car too. But I sure appreciate all the info.

I do know that the mules have a weight limit they can carry. So if there are big people in your party, check to see what the limit is.My SIL's family members couldn't ride the mules because of it.

Bev,
I know there is a campground at Jacob Lake which is at the North Rim, but I don't know if it has RV hookups. There's a nice little motel and café with WONDERFUL homemade cookies, but not much else up there.

Beverley,
I know that a lot of folks find RV parking in Flagstaff, which is within reach of the South Rim. We've glamped at the Flagstaff KOA and is has some really nice sites and is a nice campground.

What you need to plan on is the DESERT HEAT!!!! Flagstaff and being on top of the canyon are not so hot, but Cameron is hot, Page will be pretty hot and going down into the canyon will be hot! I travel through that part of Arizona several times a year as my daughter lives in Phoenix. It is the Navajo Reservation, it is desert and it is hot and if the wind blows there is red sand all over the place .

I know there are campgrounds on the South Rim, but I don't know about hookups or RV parks. My daughter and son-in-law are VERY familiar with the Canyon but they've either camped or stayed in a motel (at the North Rim). They have hiked it many time, my son-in-law has hiked it Rim-to-Rim more than once but never in the summer.

Wishing you the best!

The closest RV park that I am aware of is in either in Cameron, AZ or Page, Az. Not sure about the shuttles though.
