I read two biographies to earn a merit badge. One is from the 1900's about Mother Teresa. Five things that I learned from her and this book. Is to pray and listen for God's answers. To love and help others no matter what. to give of your heart unconditionally . and to find peace within yourself, Follow your dreams and see where they take you.
The other book I read is from the 1800's called " The Quilt that Walked to Golden". it was a wonderful book.
I want to share that quilts can be comforting, knowing the women that makes them, does so with love.
Pioneer women paved the road for us to be strong women.
It makes me want to learn to quilt and share them as heirlooms.
I would love to sit in at those old quilting bees and listen to their stories.
To me this book was a wonderful means of survival for so many pioneer women.

The Quilt that Walked to Golden is a great book! I enjoy learning & teaching about women history via the needle and thread. It's one of my favourite clubs that I host. There is so much history in the cloth. Every quilt has a story.

When I started earning these merit badges, I first looked up the top 100 most powerful, women then narrowed it down. I chose Michelle Obama because of the kitchen garden she started at the white house , pushing for organic foods , the way she helps kids and military .
I did the same with the rest of the books we had to read. I did alot of searching until I found a book that I would enjoy reading and learning from.

I really enjoyed reading the books and especially about the quilts and pioneer women.
I just ordered a few books from Abebooks about Harriet Tubman the lady that will be going on the $20 bill. I am interested in reading about the underground railroad.
I have been trying to find a book on the quilts they made and used back then to show the way to safety for the slaves and what it all means.
You can learn so much from reading.
