Feeling rather morose the last couple of days and decided to work on two sweet mid-century side tables--laminated top with mahogany tapered legs---very ugly to begin with. I clipped some Victorian images from an old photography book and used some clippings from a poetry book (James Whitcomb Riley) from around 1900. Still have some work to do and several coats of poly-acrylic, but I kind of like how they turned out!

When I finish them I'll list them for sale in my Etsy store....

Melody, why don't you put a lock of hair on them. They used hair for jewelry to give as funeral rembrances. Also try bits of black silk. Black was used for mourning dresses and quilts.

Love the tables! I have done decoupage before, umm, but obviously I do not have any imagination!
Thanks for sharing Melody!

These side tables are fabulous, Melody. I love the older pictures mixed with the writing. Great work!

Just put my first coat of poly acrylic on these---I'll be listing them in my Etsy shop in a couple of days.

Kristine: If I'm in a funk....and can get myself off the couch (LOL) I try to do something with my hands---something productive and I always feel so much better. Embrace being morose but try to get something positive out it--Easier said than done huh?

Grace: Thank you Grace!

Melody...once again very lovely work! I love Cardinals and especially the RED ones but
did not know about the Victorian Mourning Theme. So, thanks for sharing that!

Also, these tables look like Mid-Century Modern meets Victorian Charm.

Blessings,
Peggy

Erin..."The cardinal is a representative of a loved one who has passed. When you see one it means your loved one is visiting you...They usually show up when you need them or miss them." I thought since I was going for the Victorian / Mourning theme the little red bird would fit in nicely! I really enjoyed putting this project together....Thanks for the praise---I appreciate it very much!

Those look great, Melody! I love the little bird on them. The pop of color looks nice.
