I am considering participating in an art show this coming June. I attended this particular one for several years plying my hand-crafted soap, but I think I will set up a table of my hand woven rugs this time around. I am busy loading up rugs on the loom and once the warp runs low I will 'cut' the rugs and finish them off. I will need at least 2 dozen to participate in the show but am hoping to complete many more!
Any suggestions regarding 'sale-able' colors would be greatly appreciated....

Posted - Feb 02 2016 : 5:14:21 PM I would love to learn to do "Rose Path" (Swedish Weaving), but I am so technically challenged! Hopefully, when I am more confident and have done this for a few years I will be able to expand my vision. So, for now I grab 'odds and ends' and create my own patterns. My rugs are truly OOAK!

Posted - Feb 02 2016 : 5:13:28 PM I would vote for neutrals too. If it were me buying one I'd be drawn to country reds/blues for my kitchen CJ

Posted - Feb 02 2016 : 4:03:23 PM Melody the rug in the photo is beautiful ! love the color. I gravitate to blues and pinks and mix of colors.
I am about to get my 46" floor loom set up again been stored for 20 years. had to do some restoration on it. will be good to have my old friend back. I plan on starting off getting back into the swing of it with some rugs. Have you ever made rugs with a pattern to them? my big thrill is making coverlets. can be quite a challenge and hope the two pieces match up when finished. I make them to fit on a full size bed. wish you best of luck on the show and you do really well.

Posted - Feb 02 2016 : 2:58:35 PM Your rug reminds me of the rug my mother had when I was a child. It was just like this except was black and white. It sat at the bottom of our stairs and I would always play on it. I wonder if she still has it. This is such a wonderful thing for you to sell. I hope they do well. As far as colors that I would buy, my choices are blacks and browns with the occasional turquoise.

Posted - Feb 02 2016 : 1:53:02 PM I LOVE blues and so I gravitate more towards those---but I figured some reds and greens--browns--colors that would be easy to coordinate with bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchens.

Posted - Feb 02 2016 : 1:08:24 PM Look up Pantone. They have the current year's colors on their site for fashion, home, kitchen and other areas. I am not certain who picks these colors and I know many people gravitate toward them. I would start here to plan your rugs this year.

Posted - Feb 01 2016 : 3:38:52 PM Oh Melody,, How Awesome your hand loomed rug is!...
as for popular colors,,, the Neutrals with hints of blues or spice seem to far well...
If your local Library carries magazines like House Beautiful, Country Living, Cottage Living and Urban Living,,, scroll through them to see what colors seem to be popular....
It really is Hit & Miss... When I was crocheting rag rugs (4 yrs ago) for a local peddlers type fair,,, the colors I thought would sell didn't and the colors I didn't make enough of,,, did... so you just never know...
But most people love and appreciate hand crafted items,,, but there will always be that one Joker in the Deck who will tell you they can buy a similar item at WallyMart for a fraction of the cost... Just smile and point them in the direction of the nearest WallyMart.... lol! Handcrafted work is always more loved and appreciated then mass produced.
Now quit dwaddling and get back to work at your Loom! lol! farmgirl hugz
