Katie ~ I'm soooo sorry to hear you've been sick. I called and left messages but when you didn't call back, I gave up. You're too precious to be so sick! You need a massage!! Anyway, I'm sure we'll see each other again. Let me know when you move. It's such a shame that the SLC area is losing such beautiful souls, isn't it?

Rebekah, I'm going to respond to you by email.

It's good to be back.

Love,
P

Anne, I don't know where Reed College is but I think it might be close. We live in the Lents district, near the park. There's a Joanne's and a Walmart nearby. Are you close enough to visit?

Libbie, yes, Powells is here in Portland. They have a store that's a whole city block of books (sigh). I've gotten their newsletter for years and one of the first things we did when we got here was go see Fup. She's 17 now and moves very slowly, but she's healthy and very, very sweet. Powells also has some great sattelite stores scattered about. Fup is actually in the Tech store.

I really feel bad about my farmgirl friends in Utah. Miss you guys (and Mona)! However, we'll keep in touch.

Much love,
Patricia

Oh my goodness, Patricia, were you EVER missed around here! Glad you are back in the Farm Yard with us. I have been worried about you. Glad things are looking up for you and Stu and let your friends here know if we can help in any way. We love you!

Patricia- I'm so glad to here from you and so sorry for the ordeal you are having to deal with. This is a beautiful area and very multicultural. I can't wait to see you and give you a great big hug. Let us know when you are back on your feet and settled and we'll have to plan a girl's day out on the town!!

Love and blessings,

Missy

Patricia!! I am SOOO glad to hear from you! I have thought of you so often! I am sorry that you have moved from Salt Lake! I hope you have a great place in Portland, and that you can feel "at home" finally.

I kept thinking that I needed to call you, but this fall/winter has been so difficult for me...I got a horrible infection and ended up with Sepsis! (check out my pathetic posts in Here's to your Health)

I have been so sick for three months, and on a picc line IV for antibiotics for about 6 weeks!!

~Is that a good enough excuse for ignoring my 2nd mother????

I wish I had been well enough to help you move!! OR at least taken you out for a "farewell dinner"

I hope things are looking up for you, Dear friend. Keep in touch!

Kate
ps...Eldon and I have a move in the works too....I know what you mean about never fitting in! I have always been "on the outside looking in" luckily, though, I never had to apply for jobs! I never thought about that??? We are looking to move to central Utah, San Pete or Sevier Valley, we *NEED* to get out kids to a small town!!

WOO HOO
P, I have really missed you!
Love and light to you
Kate

Kay -

We live at the Woodstock Hardware store, it is our favorite place. Those guys are always so helpful. Yes the houses near Reed are beautiful - that is the East Moreland Neighborhood. My husband's grandfather help develope that neighborhood back in the 30's.

I'm glad she's here too! And I'm going to be making a visit right after the holidays! I need another embroidery lesson.

Anne -- I love that area over by Reed College. I worked over there and loved to drive and look at the wonderful houses. I love the Woodstock shopping district - especially the hardware store.

Hi, there, Patricia! I'm so glad to hear your "voice" again, and I'm glad that you're loving Portland. I've visited there a couple of times and just thought it was so much fun - that's where that great bookstore is, isn't it? Powell's, I think? Anyway, it's great to hear from you, and we Utah farmgirls will miss having you so close, but, boy, did Kay and Missy luck out!!!

XOXO, Libbie

Where in Portland did you settle? Eastside or Westside? Not sure if you are familiar with the city or not, but if you like some ideas on areas to go let me know. I am on the eastside in Woodstock, not too far from Reed College.

Hi Ladies ~ I'm sorry I was AWOL for so long and I'm sorry you were worried, but it couldn't be helped. At least all fingers but one are in working order again so I can write!

We moved to Portland three weeks ago and we love it. We spent a year and a half trying to fit in in SLC and finally realized that was never going to happen. It has nothing to do with religion. It has to do with "clique-ish"-ness. Kinda like in high school. If you're not a member of the "popular" crowd, you're nobody. Very high school mentality, but true. It's a very uncomfortable way to live. If you apply for a job and you're not in the right clique, no matter how great your qualifications are, forget it. The job will always go to someone who is a member - usually somebody's relative or friend or someone in the same church neighborhood.

Finally, something very nasty happened to Stu and we decided we'd had enough. I don't want to go into it here because lawsuits are pending, but we decided to leave the state. After considering afew different choices, we decided on Portland, which is beautiful, and friendly. Another plus is that my son Patrick was transferred here recently by his job.

So far so good. Our house sold in one day at the asking price and we began to pack. The whole process took about a month and a half. We're in and happy. I'm thrilled to be so close to Kay and Missy and look forward to seeing them soon!! Woo hoo!!

Again, I apologize for being gone so long. I was trying to work full time, do readings, pack and make arrangements, and all on an emotional roller coaster, which in turn made the physical worse. But I keep rolling along!!

thanks for your caring,

Love,
P

Well it's good to know she's okay, and will be back in the swing of things soon. I worry about her health, with the fibromyalgia and all. That's a horrid thing to cope with. And Kay, I hope you two can get together and become great friends. It's wonderful to have other farmgirls right in one's own backyard.

Wow, Kay - thanks for letting us know! I'm so glad she's safe and sound - and so close to you! Fun for BOTH of you!!!!!

Wasn't she involved in a program at the University related to Pain Management and Fibromyalgia? I think that was the last time I heard from her, maybe that is taking up alot of time and energy. Hope we hear from her soon whatever she's doing!

I was just thinking how much I'm missing her as well. That would be so cool if she was really moving to Portland. We had the best time getting to know her at farm fair and she's such a neat lady!!
