So.... while enjoying my early morning cup of Java,,,, I watched as 3 Bucks sauntered onto our property,,, they just looked so majestic... until one decided my 4yr old almond tree would make for a great antler rubbing spot... NOT! I stepped out the door and clapped my hands and he and his buddies darted over the rail fence into the property next to us...

I thought I got the message to them...to leave my trees alone...
Well...
early this morning I walked out to my small flower garden where I was also growing 'Sugar Baby' water melons,,, one last one on the vine,,, ready to peek in a few days... As I stood there looking at the vine.. my brain took a second or 3 to realize,,, my last melon was GONE! all that was left was trampled on vines,,, and hooves/hoof prints around the plant where my melon once lay..

Dawgone you Rats with Antlers! I suppose my last 3 tomato plants are next on their agenda!

Ooooohmygoodness, Grace! That's TERRIBLE!!! But your rats are a lot cuter than mine are... I have to ask, what size "trap" would you use to catch one of those suckers? ;)

My aunt used to swear by dried blood (???) and human hair...

Maybe a GIANT cat, like a mountain lion, would do...

Good luck!

Try getting some tiger or lion poo from the zoo and burying it around your tree and the garden. We would use that to deter stray dogs from peeing on our bushes when I was a kid.

I have tried, hair,, & Irish Spring soap... with no success, the only thing I haven't tried is the old 'drop trowel and piddle" around my garden... lol!
Oh well at this point,,, to late in the season to bother...
Next Spring hubby will build me a 6' high enclosed fenced garden like he did back in Spokane... only thing that got in was the rabbits and quail... them, I can deal with. lol!

Gracie,
Put some dog hair on your plants . . . works great as a deer deterrent! We use it on our tomato and pepper plants!

And, we have deer, deer, deer . . . ! Also bears, but they don't seem to like the vegetable garden, they eat fruit!
