Not sure if anyone else has posted this but I just wanted to let you know that there is a piece of legislation in the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee that has been introduced by Senator Feinstein of California and co-authored by Susan Collins of Maine, which is going to impact all of us who make homemade soaps, lotions or other personal products. It is called the Personal Care Products Safety Act and is numbered as S.1014. It is being pushed by large companies including Procter and Gamble, Johnson and Johnson, Revlon, Estee Lauder, Unilever and L'Oreal. I looked up the bill and it is for real. It was just sent to committee last week. It basically calls for all makers of soaps, lotions, face products, etc. who sell these products, to go through FDA testing procedures for every batch produced, paperwork filled out and filed for each batch and so on, to the point that it will run small businesses out of business. There are fines and fees included. It does not say that bad chemicals have to be removed, but only that companies have to test for them. The large companies already do this to some extent because they USE the bad chemicals (and we don't!!) but it would put too much of a burden on the small soap making businesses. I personally think that is their goal. Please go to the US Senate website at www.senate.gov and then go to that committee. You will find each senator who is on that committee. Time to flood them with phone calls. If you want to read an article on it, here is one: https://simpleunhookedliving.wordpress.com/2015/04/26/lawmakers-want-fda-to-crack-down-on-soap-makers/ Thanks!!

Bonnie, I talked to Brambleberry.com today and they have their people in Washington DC talking to senators. She said that it would help for as many of us as possible to call the senators on the committee plus the senators from our home states. It looks like one of your senators sits on this committee. The senators on the committee are as follows:
Republicans by Rank

Lamar Alexander (TN)
Michael B. Enzi (WY)
Richard Burr (NC)
Johnny Isakson (GA)
Rand Paul (KY)
Susan Collins (ME)
Lisa Murkowski (AK)
Mark Kirk (IL)
Tim Scott (SC)
Orrin G. Hatch (UT)
Pat Roberts (KS)
Bill Cassidy, M.D. (LA)

Democrats by Rank

Patty Murray (WA)
Barbara A. Mikulski (MD)
Bernard Sanders (I) (VT)
Robert P. Casey, Jr. (PA)
Al Franken (MN)
Michael F. Bennet (CO)
Sheldon Whitehouse (RI)
Tammy Baldwin (WI)
