Hi farm sisters!
We are thinking of taking a vacation this year in the Sugarcreek/ Berlin, Ohio area. Do any of you live near there or have any experience visiting this area?
We are looking for places to go (or not go), good restaurants with local food, etc. I found a place to stay on-line called Blessings Lodge that looked interesting. Does anyone know if it is a good, clean place to spend a few nights?

Wow - typos galor! I'm on the treadmill while typing - probably not the best idea.
ONE of the inns where we stayed had the cows, and the hotel has NONE of the charm
I'm sure there are more..

I love that area! I have Amish friends in Charm, and here's what we do when we visit them:
-Visit Miller's Dry Goods: a wonderful fabric/quilt shop in Charm. I was visiting the day they were unwrapping MJB's "glamping" fabric - score!!! They have thousands of bolts of fabric, and a wonderful quilt shop in the barn next door.
-Plan on several meals at Mrs. Yoder's kitchen, where they have the best broasted chicken. One visit is not enough.
-stop by Herschberger's "Truck Patch" and be sure to have a fry pie, and feed the goats that are usually up on the roof. There's a conveyor belt system to get goat chow in ice cream cones up to them, and trust me chaos ensues when they know food is on the way up
-Visit the Heiney Cheese factory. I can't get past the name - it sounds like an embarrassing medical condition, doesn't it? But you get to see the process of cheese being made and can sample some, too.
-There are an incredible number of "inns" or B&bs that are on Amish farm properties, but we have also stayed at the Berlin Grande Hotel, which has all the amenities and nine of the charm of the Amish-run places. None of the inns where we stayed had a split-rail fence about 15 feet from our front porch (with a porch swing!), and we learned the very worn path on the other side of the fence was the cow path to and from the barn. It was quite a parade come dinner time, and was much better to watch than the evening news. Much.
-If you are interested, Dresden, OH is not far and touring the Longaberger basket factory is really interesting. The work floor in HUGE and amazing to see, plus supporting one of the few American craftsman companies left is always a good thing.
-Be prepared for limited flush toilets in the downtown Berlin area and at several of the businesses you may visit - there are outhouses in the parking lots. Very clean, but it can be a bit of a surprise to not have bathrooms in buildings.
-There are several websites with good maps of the shopping area, restaurants and lodging options.
