Posted - Nov 18 2006 : 4:08:31 PM It's covered under the straw for the winter. The leaves are gone and it is just a baby plant. Even huge ones have to be covered in the winter, frost will get it for good.

Posted - Nov 17 2006 : 5:38:42 PM randi, A gunnera is a plant that looks like it belongs in the Jurassic period and is nick-named Dinosaur Food. It is big and bold growing to 8+feet high with giant leaves (4-8ft across) on stiff-haired stems 4-6 feet long. Wild , huh. I don't know your zone there but with NJ being the Garden State I bet it could grow there. It likes moist soil. Go online and you will find it. It is very cool looking. MB

Posted - Nov 17 2006 : 2:35:09 PM Yes Libbie, you read right. It is a two year old Gunnera and still in its pot. I want to plant it by the pond but haven't found that perfect place. Hopefully, if I don't kill it, it will grow huge. I saw one in Marysville WA. that was gigantic. We had one at a nursery I worked at that was young about 2feet.

Posted - Nov 17 2006 : 10:43:54 AM MaryBeth - did I notice correctly that you have a Gunnera under that toddler bed? Tell me about it - aren't those the plants with something crazy like 6-foot leaves?!?!?!?! Neat!
XOXO, Libbie

Posted - Nov 17 2006 : 09:41:12 AM I love seeing everyone's blogs too..if you have one now, Jami, guaranteed we would all be checking it out. It sure is fun. I held out and didn't want to do it for a long time, but now I am glad I did. Alot of times I am more likely to post pictures there since it is one step easier..you don't have to post them to Photobucket first. Loved seeing your house MaryBeth!!

Posted - Nov 17 2006 : 07:38:07 AM I like all of the blogs you gals have. I've contemplated having a blog and gave it a go for a short time but didn't have a network of friends like here to visit it...so it seems it was for my eyes only, seemed silly to tell myself what I was doing so I deleted it!
So, I see you all use different "bloggers"...I don't know how to choose one.
Keep up the great work, gals.
Jami
