I can't seem to find the original post, but MaryJane had a thread not too long ago posting about some sentimental things in her office. It got me thinking. I have a home office where lately, I am spending time than ever before, but the area was feeling like a mish-mosh, cluttered area that I didn't want to use.

The thing is, as neat and homey as I like my home, for some reason, the home office just fell short...like a dumping ground for mail, catalogs, and "tacky swag". It started to look very cluttered.

There was potential. There's a cozy red knitted throw and some cool poster art from Denmark on the walls that my FIL gave me. Just needed a little tweaking.

So, with MJ's post inspiring me, we cleaned out the clutter. I sewed up a fluffy, cozy pillow for the armchair in the room in a vintage inspired Eiffel tower/antique bike print, and got rid of some tacky plastic "swag" coasters and replaced them with pretty vintage china saucers. My business cards are in a pretty teacup, and an antique canning jar from the late 1800's (found at a thrift store for $2) is filled with little seashells and sits on the desk. Inside it is a battery operated tea light. I kept the sentimental items such as framed photos and little things my dd made in art classes on the bookshelves, but am neatening up and organizing my bookshelves to look better. DH bought me a beautiful orchid for my desk, and I am using a wood turned vase my brother made me to hold pens and pencils. My DH gave me a wooden desk organizer he wasn't needing anymore, to get my papers organized. (More attratctive than the old plastic ones). To finish it off, I ordered a fun 1952 "pin up" style print off of eBay, a classic Gil Elvgrin. I spent less than $10 on it, and a friend of mine who owns a frame shop will frame it inexpensively for me. (That will get the calendar off the wall that puts hundreds of holes in the wall, each month we change it). I have a tiny, mini sewing machine-shaped pencil sharpener I used to keep on my sewing table, but now will use it as intended. The result is a cozy nook of a room where I want to spend time and be creative. (Also,I didn't spend much, most were things I already had). Thank you yet again, MaryJane, for always inspiring me in so many ways!

Farmgirl hugs,
Nicole

Thanks, Bonnie!

My DH bought me a potted orchid. It's quite happy...look at all the blooms! I had to close the blinds to take the picture because we actually have SUN today! Woo-Hoo!

Look at all those blooms!

Nicole

Love it.
I've been planning on sprucing up my craft room/music room. I just found an awesome vintage
bug/herb wallpaper. It makes me happy every time I look at it, so it must be just for me.
Great job, Nicole.

God has a bigger plan for me than I have for myself.

That's the chair and the pillow I made. Betty Boop is my childhood doll. A cozy spot to read or study.

Using an old green depression glass goblet to corral little things that accumulate on the desk.

That's the 1950's poster print I bought on Ebay that a friend framed for me. She is so bright and makes me giggle.

I love being in the room now. So much neater than before.

Nicole

Nicole...my hubby is away for a few days and what you just did is what I have planned while he is gone.
De-cluttering!!! And making several cozy spaces. I can't wait to give that big sigh of relief...instead
of the big sigh as I shut the door to a room I don't want to even go into. So...yes, it seems to be that
great minds are thinking alike. It will be lovely to just be able to enjoy these spaces once again.

blessings and hugs,
Peggy

Thanks girls! I will take some photos this weekend and post them soon, CJ. I am still working on my shelves, and I can't wait to get my print to frame! MaryJane said it perfectly...a big sigh! Love to de-clutter, and feather my nest!

Nicole

Nicole your office sounds so nice and cozy. Like the idea of using china saucers as coasters. Enjoy your time in your 'new' space.
