Posted - Dec 27 2014 : 12:03:01 PM Do any of you subscribe to "WhatsApp"... ? My BFF who lives in Germany suggested we put it on our phone so we can text (internationally)... I have gone on-line and read about it... but am a wee bit concerned given the amount (in the past 2 years) of security breeches and other hick-ups... or am I just being to overtly worried about using it? I know there is an app fee, and it would be nice to direct text anytime via our cell phones... but I am just curious about what issues, if any, likes & dis-likes about the system.. Anyone out there in farmgirl land have any thoughts?

Posted - Dec 29 2014 : 8:52:16 PM I looked at their website. It sounds like an instant messenger program. There are other similar free programs, such as Yahoo Instant Messenger, which let you send messages back and forth to friends, no matter what country they live in.

Posted - Dec 29 2014 : 09:20:42 AM I rarely use my cell phone. Only one of my friends has the number so I always know who is calling me. DH and I use the cell phones mainly to find each other in Target, that is, when he remembers his. LOL

Posted - Dec 29 2014 : 06:17:31 AM I don't have one either Joyce. I did when I was working, but since I became a SAHM I didn't need it anymore, and it's one less bill. I don't really miss it, but everyone else misses being able to text me :)

Posted - Dec 28 2014 : 2:04:42 PM OMG! I am sooo glad to hear I am not alone in learning all this new techo texting stuff...
My new phone also has 'voice texting',,, the plus & minua... it's faster than typing... the minus... make sure the darn thing is off... before you spout off an experlative deletetive! and yep I did that 'cuz I was getting frustrated with the phone! Now I make sure it (voice) is off before I grumble like a Sailor! Oh and fyi, my hubby learned how to 'Block' calls,,, unfortunately he blocked me,,, forgetting I still have my Washington phone number...he thought my number was a telemarketer, so for a whole week he was not getting my calls and I finally gave him an ear full.. Checked my phone, yep show'd my calls to him,, he went to his block file and there I was! Whoops!! I am to old and set in my comfortable ways to learn all this new techno stuff! lol! Now someone pass me a box of chocolates and nobody gets hurt! lol!

Posted - Dec 28 2014 : 07:16:21 AM At least you're texting. I would say go for it internationally. I learned to text only recently because my granddaughter asked me to text her mother and when I said I didn't know how, she looked at me like I was from another planet. I figured it was about time. But the one thing I don't like is the auto-correct function. I hope I can figure out how to turn it off.

Posted - Dec 27 2014 : 9:35:20 PM I know, even tho there is our laptops to chat back and forth, it would be nice, not to mention, convenient to be able to Text when ever... When I go back next April, I will need to figure out what to do for a cell phone to make local calls in Germany as well as international calls,,, or just buy a 'throw away' cell phone and purchase minutes,, so I can chat with family in Germany, but then I have to go to a Land Line to make international calls or buy a specific SMS card for that purpose... oh decisions, decisions...
