I love fall! I'm always as excited as a racehorse to transition to fall decor. This year, though, I find myself not ready. Maybe it's because we've had such a great summer. The garden is still giving us goodies. The weather is cold in the morning, summery by afternoon. Hmmmm...

Have you decorated yet?

I absolutely LOVE autumn! So I am happy its here! But we had a pretty good summer, too! I don't really decorate for the season (mostly because we just can't afford it now.) but my baby and I go for long nature walks and he picks up leaves of every color and size and hands them to me to put in my purse! (I have lots of fall debris at the bottom of my purse! LOL!!)

I usually wait until Oct to start decorating for Fall. But, our weather has been so unseasonably mild that I'm getting the itch early. I started decorating the front porch about a week ago. This weekend I'm changing out the potpourri and oils inside the house.

I'm jealous of you gals that experience the color changes in leaves. Down here near Houston, we get either green leaves or brown and falling.

I made my first loaves of pumpkin bread this past Sunday. Thinking it's time to start decorating...

I am not quite ready to give up the summer days but Autumn has arrived. I decorated already which is early for me but I was cleaning out some things and decided to go ahead and do it. Autumn is my favorite season but this year we had such a lovely summer and I have enjoyed it. We are having chilly mornings now but wonderful warm afternoons. So I have to decided to enjoy each day as it comes.

I thought about putting some out, and at least my wreath outside up, but didn't get to it today. By next week, I will put it out, though. And the Halloween stuff goes up Oct 1st. I've got such cute Halloween stuff I want to enjoy it awhile. I' need to sew up the pillows I want to make with the Halloween fabric I found. It's got vintage Halloween postcards on it.

I also have been canning like crazy, and dehydrating herbs. The garden here is starting to wind down.

Farmgirl hugs,
Nicole

Well, I didn't get the Northeast part done. They aren't really 40 acres, but they are sure dusty and some of the weeds quite tall. Stirred up so much dust with the mower that sometimes I couldn't see where I was going and I was covered head to toe with it . . . shower felt sooooo good. But, I didn't have anything left to muscle the mower around for the NE section . . . later this week!

Think I'll light one of my Autumn Leaves tealights tonight! :D

Ooooooh! 'Hadn't thought of THAT, CJ!!! I think that should be the argument that wins! LOL! Maybe I'll make a couple of pies to ease his "pain." The boy will go along with just about anything for me if I make him pie! LOL! Thank you for the "heads up!" :)

Don't overdo it, "Cous"!!! Remember to enjoy some of your day, too!

Well, Nini, ya' know that next Tuesday is officially the first day of autumn . . . you could tell Sam that.
Yesterday, here it was in the low 80's which was a warmup from the past couple of weeks. But we're trying to get some outdoor projects done that couldn't be done in the summer heat and need to be done before winter. Today I'm mowing weeds in our "north 40" (the area NW of our house that isn't irrigated and mowed like the lawn). Gotta do the "northeast 30" as well . . . same story just NE of the house.
So, go for it, Nini!
HUGS!

LOL! Nicole! I know what you mean! Sam and I were just discussing this yesterday. He worked all summer and then we took a couple of weeks off for vacation (haven't been on one in 18 years, since he was a baby!), and to him, it just doesn't feel like autumn yet! The garden is dying, the leaves are changing...even the pool is too cold to enjoy! But still, he has asked that I wait just another week or so until I pull out the decorations and start lighting the apple and pumpkin candles. He's just not ready to let go of summer. I AM ready now, though. The nights are so cool, and there have been a couple of sweatshirt days recently. I made the "mistake" of lighting a deliciously scented kitchen spice candle the other day, and now I just can't WAIT to decorate and start baking again! Maybe I'll give it another week... But no more than one... Maybe if I pull out some Halloween candy he'll change his tune! :)

Happy Fall Y'All!

Hugs -

Autumn is starting to show in the changing colors of the leaves on the aspen trees in the mountains. The air and the "smells" of the outdoors are changing.
I just finished doing my fall decorating . . . it's not a big to-do, but I do enjoy putting out some fall/autumn things and I like to burn my very favorite scented candle . . Autumn Leaves by Yankee . . my FAVORITE!!!

The glass pumpkins and autumn decorations came out September 2. I can't stand hot weather, I'm a fall and winter fan. It was 90 when I put up my fall decorations and pretended that summer was done over the hum of the A/C. We did finally cool down and the mums I planted are blooming beautifully outside. The trees won't be changing colors for a bit, but in my little corner of IL it autumn is in full swing!

I wish I could have held onto summer a bit longer but the temperatures didn't make that possible. We're almost down to freezing some nights. At the beginning of September my flowers were all beautiful and blooming, but now they've slowed nearly to a halt. For the first time I've actually felt like having a hot bowl of soup, but I sure miss warm walks at night. I never even had a chance to make it out to the beach. :/ Summer moves too fast around here. I decided to put up my autumn decor because I know it's not likely it'll feel like summer again; I figure I might as well embrace the weather and go with autumn.

Autumn is my favorite season. It's hard for me to wait once the general feel of the seasons start to change but I make myself wait until the equinox/solstices to change out the decor. Thank goodness, it's only a few more days!!!

I am all decorated for fall. Other than Christmas it is the only seasonal decorating I do. I do not do Halloween, I do autumn and Thanksgiving. I love the warm colors and it just makes me feel happy!

I love every one of the seasons. I have done some fall decorating - some mums and pumpkins placed around the farm. But I'm still watering my begonias and impatience. There's also tomatoes still being canned :) I guess I'm doing a little of both - holding on to summer and embracing fall.

It is always interesting to hear perspectives from Farmgirls in other parts of the US. Depending on where you live and the winter you have, Summer and Fall take on different meanings. For those of us in the lower tier of the US, we are weighted down with long months of intense heat and humidity. Come August, we are so weary of the long hot summers that we are craving any cooler possibilities. But for us, Fall comes slowly and sporadically. Our winters are not what you experience either. Our gardens were done in June and now the fall allows us to plant a fall garden and enjoy those veggies that like cooler temps. Then again, sometimes Fall just inspires people no matter where you live. It is fun to have this forum where you can always find others who are feeling just like yourself on a topic. I love it! Diversity is what makes our lives richer and fuller!!

I'm not quite ready either. We have had such a glorious summer--gardens all doing fine--we went camping and just had FUN!!! But then again I love Fall too. So we will see. MB

This summer has been a great one as far as my garden goes, that's for sure! I'm still putting away goodies. I always look forward to fall, the colors, the temps, the smell of a fire. I have actually found it harder to start decorating this year because it seems I'm canning something everyday!

I'm not a summer person so I don't understand hanging on to it. Saying all that I think it's great that you do enjoy both seasons. Enjoy your summer as it winds down and bit by bit decorate for fall as it revs up.
