How about you?

Posted - Jul 27 2014 : 4:13:08 PM I like repurposed, creative, old world/country style. I have an artist dad so I have furniture and decorations he made, plus I am a crafter. It all adds up to eclectic on top of the old world/country look. We have a ranch house on a farm so it fits. |

Posted - Jul 20 2014 : 7:38:54 PM hmm..I guess you would call my decorating "revolving". ;) lol I love so many different things that my decorating changes with my mood. My favorite was when my Aunt Dawn called it Whimsy.

Posted - Jul 20 2014 : 7:32:27 PM I didn't mean the decorating so much as the freedom that comes from losing the clutter. I can't stand clutter. It makes me tense and I cannot get anything done when there are too much stuff around. I also need to free up space but that doesn't really have to do with my decorating as much as my emotional attachment to things that have been passed down to me. Always feel like I have to keep everything that was ever owned by my mother or grandmothers etc.

Posted - Jul 20 2014 : 12:00:29 PM Denise...when we lived in a Condo about 8 years ago...I decided to try going Minimalistic in my decorating. As you know Minimalism is the complete polar opposite of Victorian Eclectic. Everyone who came to visit me...said, "This is so NOT YOU! It seems so cold and austere in here." When we moved...9 months later I went back to my own decorating style. We each choose what feels the most comfortable to Who We Really Are and when you go outside that box it feels like you are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Doesn't work too well. LOL

Posted - Jul 20 2014 : 11:17:39 AM Arttie, It sure is a category if it is how you decorate and what you love! I wish I could lean more towards minimalism.

Posted - Jul 20 2014 : 10:19:34 AM Arttie, your home sounds beautiful to me! I think rustic country minimalist is a very creative and easy living formula! Love your color combinations too.

Posted - Jul 20 2014 : 09:23:22 AM Is country rustic minimalist a category? I love the coziness of rustic country, but I need to have things neat and tidy. So my home is barn reds and chocolate browns, and dark greens. But I have lots of Woodsy quilts, and some pictures. But no knick-knacky things or clutter.
My furniture is all very basic with clean lines. Rugs and curtains are very simple and plain.

Posted - Jul 19 2014 : 12:56:31 PM Eclectic for sure. I have antiques, all kinds of things from our family farm and I use linens (doilies, cloth tablecloths, hankies and other linens) to decorate in my living room, bathroom and bedroom. Kinda cottage-y, shabby chic, farmhouse . . . hard to describe. I also hang framed and matted photographs that I've taken of scenery and change them with the seasons (change decorations with the seasons as well, even in my bathroom) CJ

Posted - Jul 19 2014 : 07:53:04 AM Hahahahahaha Shannon!! I remember those years like they were yesterday! To your list, I would have added cat hair to the dog hair!! Of, and some patches of( "sticky, what IS that???) strategically placed here and there and on various floors!

Posted - Jul 19 2014 : 07:32:05 AM Lol! Shannon that's great! That was me 5 to 10 years ago. I almost forgot my moose and cabinny room! Just like my Christmas tree, I could never stick to one clor or style! We are all unique, our homes should reflect that!

Posted - Jul 19 2014 : 05:19:33 AM Well, let's see. My home is a hodgepodge of antiques, family hand me downs, lots of Longaberger baskets, and Primitives. I guess one could generalize that I like things that are old, handmade, and simple. Shabby Chic is fun to look at, and I love the colors, but I prefer a non lacy, girly look. For some reason, I have always been drawn to colonial american furniture or prairie, rugged stuff. There is something calming and peaceful to me about the simplicity of homes and log cabins before the victorian trend of the late 1800s. When I have visited Shaker museums, I love how everything has a use and a place and there is nothing in a room that isn't needed. It is a look, I strive to attain and miserably fail at! LOL!!
So, Denise, in answer to your question, my list looks similar to yours: Farmhouse, vintage, Primitive, and country (broadly defined@!) .

Posted - Jul 19 2014 : 05:08:44 AM I guess I have my own style, I love primitive with a farmhouse twist. I like the old chippy paint and BIG furniture pieces, like the step backs, pie safes, harvest tables. I use mostly whites, blacks and just a bit of yellow gold for an accent color.

Posted - Jul 18 2014 : 7:32:36 PM Hmmm....my style tends towards rustic but very colorful. I just bought some paint tonight to repaint my hallway. It's a shade of red called La Fonda Fireberry. My kitchen is a bright reddish orange called Pomegranate Punch. My bedroom is a mellow autumn color called Roasted Chestnut. The living room is teal gray but it's mostly just blue. I have burlap curtains in the living room and lace panels. I have touches of nature everywhere and lots of bird art. I guess my style is Global Green (as in ecology). Cindy
