Posted - May 13 2014 : 06:58:13 AM My issue of MJF arrived yesterday-reminding me how long it's been since I posted here. Things are wonderful- I'm teaching beginning mandolin online via video chat, and am also offering beginning autoharp classes. Playing a lot of banjo, and have taken up viola. I'm writing a book for beginning viola in the folk/bluegrass style. Aside from that I'm involved with church,(joined one last October) Planting wise I have corn growing in the front yard-picked up a tin of organic seeds and seeing how the corn does-plus the stalks will make great porch fall decor. Hoping you're all doing well!

Posted - May 18 2014 : 05:29:20 AM Hello Sherrie! Like you, I subscribe to MJF but haven't posted in a while, so getting back on board with folks. I have ALWAYS wanted to learn how to play the banjo but have not taken that first step. Is it easy to learn? I've played the guitar for 40+ years, and tried mandolin until the only one our family had "disappeared". Got busy with life and other things since then, so your post made me want to dust off this dream and give it a go. To reintroduce myself...I live on 41 acres of paradise with Patrick, the man of my dreams, and we both work fulltime in addition to gardening, raising chickens and rabbits (8 new babies just last week!!), so walk that fine line between fatigue and joy for all that we have and are responsible for. Will get the garden up and running this weekend (royal burgundy beans, watermelon radishes, kale kale and more kale, just to name a few...), and paint a few deck chairs bright summery colors. Lots to do, and really love hearing from others about how they manage farm, full time jobs, hobbies and avocations. Packing this life full of everything I can think of! Cheers! Liz
