I don't know if this is the best place to post this question or not. But I am looking for a place to buy light weight cotton skirts for everyday use to work in and wear around the farm. I don't want super heavy ones because my legs get to hot. I also don't want them so long they drag in the mudd.
I have tried to make skirts and have 2 sewing machines and can't seem to make the machine work for me. I don't have anyone close to me to help. So would love to find a good place to buy them.
Does anyone here make skirts to sell? I would love to buy them from a farmgirl if possible.If not a goo company to buy them from. Thanks in advance.

I have a great Kwik Sew pattern that I use (Kwik Start 2805), it's very simple and even if you don't have a machine you could hand sew it (it's two side seams, elastic waist and hem). Though Tracy's suggestion (above) is excellent, use your favourite skirt as a template.

Take your favorite skirt apart and use it for a pattern. The lady who is going to make them for you could probably do that and it might make it easier to get your style.

Hi Kem,
I think I wear about a size 6. Sometimes they fit me well and sometimes they are too loose.I would worry they would not fit. I really appreciate your offer. Let me think on this andI will get back with you.Thanks so much.

Linda, what size do you wear? I work at a thrift store and we get skirts in all the time. We have quarter days on Weds. and I would look and pick them up for you if you will pay postage. |

Alicia these are not the best pictures but hope it helps. The skirt that I have on had to be held in the back because the elastic does not work and the waist is now way to big. It use to fit perfect. The elastic didn't make it but about 2 years in this skirt if that. My waist measurements is 27". I would like 2 different length skirts. I would like 20 inches and 27 inches. That would put some above the knee and some below the knee. The skirt in the picture I think is around 32 inches long and is slightly above the ankle which is nice for winter time. The fabrics are from different companies. One is Thimbleberries,Red Rooster and Bound to the Prairie by Moda. Anyway hope I gave you enough info. Thanks.
I know these fabrics are kinda dark but if this works out I would like to get some different stuff too.I could send the skirt with the fabric if you want. That way you could see the style up close.

Oh I also have some really super nice cotton material that I purchased to make skirts and could not get either machine to hold the tension. I even took it to a repair place.Not that I can sew very well but really wanted to learn. So I would love to have skirts made from these fabrics. They are a prairie series with really pretty prints on them.
I have a cotton skirt I really like that I purchased many years ago from a company that I can't remember the name and it has a simple elastic waste. I love this skirt but its thread bare and old.

Goodwill is over an hour for me one way and the few times I have been there they never have anything to fit me. When they do its not appropriate for outside work.If I am in the area I do still check them out. Thanks so much for the suggestion.
