Well, Not really a New Year's resolution, but I want to make some changes in my life. And I am a pretty focused person.
Over time I have realized that I really dislike working with people and the public. When I come home at night I am just drained emotionally. And have nothing left for my family. the fortunate part is I only work part-time. But many weeks get called-in for emergancies etc....
I am looking to find work that I can do at home and still bring in a supplemental income for the family. I know I am being picky, but I really want something with limited public/people....
Any ideas? I am thinking about taking the training course for medical transcription. But I just don't know if there is a good amount of work to be found.
Fortunately, in our area the cost of living is relatively cheap. So I really only need to bring home about $900-$1000 per month to stay where I am at right now.
Am I hoping for too much.........?

I am blessed to be working at home but I am not happy in my job. One website I found that posts jobs that one can do at home is Rat Race Rebellion. http://www.ratracerebellion.com/
They screen a lot to make sure the jobs aren't scams.

Thanks for the information. You know, when you are looking at all the programs they only tell you the good things. It is good to hear the realistic point of view. I like to know the pros and cons of everything.
I was also wondering how the electronic charting was impacting transcription work. Things change pretty rapid in the medical field and I know new laws and insurances have many effects.
I want legitimate work, but it is hard to find. I am hoping to talk to my boss and find out if there is some of the medical billing I can do from home. I don't know if he will be open to the idea. He is pretty old-school.
Even if the job is not in the medical field, I am pretty open to ideas.

As a former medical transcriptionist and instructor for same on the community college level I can say that you might be able to find work at home. I worked in offices for family practice physicians, one of whom is still my PCP and he now uses a laptop with a program where he just types in notes as we talk. He no longer uses a real person for a transcriptionist. Many physicians are going to this kind of thing due to new laws (records cannot just be paper patient files/charts any more) I also don't know about hospitals these days and how they are doing the work.
I'd really do some intensive research as to job availability and what would be expected of you before going too far in a course. I also know that some of the transcription service companies who hire you to work from your home work you to death and do not pay well.
I don't mean to discourage you from that because it might be you could find work, but I'd really check it out thoroughly.
(I, for a time, was able to do my work at home for a local clinic and just faxed the notes to the office, but it was an outreach clinic from a local hospital who ended up "farming" their transcription out to a big company that was one of those "work you to death and not pay you companies" . . . I told them "NO, I wouldn't be doing that!")
I certainly understand where you are coming from and I wish you the best.

I am right there with ya on people. I just would rather be with people who are more Into homemade, simplicities, being frugal and being green. Just seems so hard to find those types. I am not into fancy, or the latest and greatest, or gossip. I pray that you can find something to do at home that makes you more happy and still provides some income. Keep us posted
