Posted - Jan 03 2014 : 5:14:33 PM Ordered food for delivery tonight from a local restaurant. I'm waiting in the kitchen for the food to come when about 20 minutes later, I hear a car door shut. I walked across the kitchen to grab my purse off the table when all of a sudden, I hear the front door open! The delivery boy, who I have never met, just walked right into my house! No knock, no doorbell, nothing! I was so startled, I didn't even think to say anything. I just paid for the food and he left. I know the owner and she would be horrified that this happened, but I don't want him to lose his job ( he's obviously still in high school) over one mistake. Do I tell her or do I just let it go? I've never had this problem before, so this is new to me! Help!

Posted - Jan 05 2014 : 3:55:00 PM It is scary. But the owner needs to know. The kid is very lucky that you didn't pull a weapon on him. Now a days you have to be safe. We keep our doors locked all the time now. So sad. Laurie

Posted - Jan 05 2014 : 06:49:54 AM I agree, the owner needs to know but I agree it should be a learning experience for the kid, not a reason to lose the job.

Posted - Jan 04 2014 : 10:40:03 AM So sorry that happened to you. It is scary! I have had people come in to my house, break into my house and steal things from me. Sorry to say we keep the doors locked almost all the time now. Even when we are home or just out in the yard. It has happened to me in different places I have lived not just here. We also lock our vehicles too. Someone took things our of vehicles around here. They were caught, but it happened again later on.
It sure was nice in the days gone by when we could leave things unlocked even when we went to town. Not anymore.

Posted - Jan 03 2014 : 10:28:56 PM Well that's alarming! Yeah, I agree with Nini and Marie! Talk to the owner and let her know that he really startled you. The owner will know how to handle the situation.

Posted - Jan 03 2014 : 9:04:12 PM I agree with Nini. Do not let this slide. Speak kindly but clearly to the restaurant owner. Everyone wins if you speak up.

Posted - Jan 03 2014 : 7:07:21 PM I would tell her, Stephanie... She can clarify the rules with her employees - he doesn't need to be fired. Some people just don't know protocol, that's all. Then you also have to realize that you don't know this person - who knows what he is capable of doing? And what if he does this at someone else's home and the owner isn't as understanding as you - what if the owner pulls out a weapon and clubs him or something? And finally, what if the owner loses business over the kid doing the same thing elsewhere? It all could so easily be rectified. So, no, please don't feel bad. It's simply a safety and protocol issue. Some people need to be told, that's all. You're not being mean - you're being wise and caring. Hopefully, the kid's boss will be the same! :) Hugs - Nini
