I just spent over a thousand dollars on car in Oct. and Nov., doing necessary engine work. Then tonight, as I'm turning onto the street I live on, some guy rearends me. He was driving a big, sturdy truck. My car is a loss. It'll cost more to fix it than it's worth. Luckily, this guy has insurance. And I wasn't hurt, at least I think I'm OK. My head feels a little weird, not hurting, but maybe I'm just stressed out. And my shoulders feel a little stiff but I think I'm OK. My poor car....and we're supposed to get 8-12 inches of snow on sunday, which means I'll have to take the bus (if they're running) to work. I don't mind walking through the snow to the busstop but it's supposed to get bitterly cold, below zero for the high on Monday. Despite everything, I feel pretty lucky. I've had people run into me before but I've never been hurt. I just wonder if his insurance is going to take into account that I spent all that money to fix up my car. He was ticketed and i was ticked off. At least I still have my sense of humor.

Good luck. I hope you begin to feel better soon. Take your doctor's advice and rest, don't push yourself. I'm so sorry this happened.

This is not professional advice!

Auto insurance is usually split limits - 10,000 per person Bodily Injury/20,000 per accident bodily injury/15,000 property damage - so your CT scan would be covered under different coverage than the car. Also, some policies in IL offer Personal Injury Protection, if you have that coverage PIP should help with your medical bills. And, if you have Underinsured Motorist your policy may help you out.

Feel free to PM if you have questions. :)

So good to be back home!!

Man oh man, Cindy! That's really scary! I'm glad you went to the doctor! Get plenty of rest and hopefully the insurance companies will take care of everything. I'm not sure who your provider is, but I had Geico when I had my accident and the agent I worked with was great! She did all the legwork. I hope they respond soon! Rest and feel better soon!

Well, I called my insurance and his insurance and am waiting to see if his will provide a rental car. My neck was really hurting last night, when I laid down to rest, I could barely raise my head. Then I found my cap--one of those pull-over, cover the ears knit caps that are so cute and popular--in the back seat of my car, and i didn't put it there. So it obviously flew off my head when my head snapped back. That takes a lot of force cause that's a tight-fitting cap. so i went to the ER and they did a CT scan and it showed a cervical sprain. So now I'm on a pain reliever/anti-inflamatory and I'm off until tuesday. the dr. said it could take several weeks to heal. So it's good that I have Monday off cause the high is supposed to be -2 degrees. Still don't know how much snow we'll get. My parents have two cars, but one needs a new tire and hasn't been driven in months, and the other, a Taurus, I've driven before but never in the snow. and I don't want to risk wrecking the car they use the most. Plus, now that I think about it, I can't walk a mile to the bus stop when it's freezing cold cause I have asthma and have trouble breathing when it's very cold. I know his insurance will pay for the ER visit cause in Illinois, you have to have liability insurance. But I don't know how much liability he has, and I know a CT scan can cost about $7,000.00. So I may have to end up seeing a lawyer, who knows. In the meantime, I'm going to stay home and rest. Stress requires rest.

Cindy,
I am sorry that this has happened! I am very thankful that you were not hurt very badly- and please do not hesitate to get checked out by a doctor- be on the safe side. I do understand being without a car and having to find a new one- always a tough spot to be in. Please know I am praying for you and that you will find the "right" car in the near future. Please take care of yourself.

So glad you were not hurt. And hope that nothing comes about at a later date. You may want to get checked out tho.
Also, If you have kept you receopts on all the work you JUST did to your car, you may get quite a bit of that back. But you do have to have proof. Also, most ins. companies will pay for a rental car for work.
You are VERY lucky that you were not hurt and he had ins.
Hope it all works out for you.

I hope everything works out for you! I know what it's like to have to walk everywhere! My figure was great, but it was a pain having to carry my sleeping tot three miles in the dark! I think Nini is right about contacting insurance companies. When my friend's car was totaled, the other parties insurance covered a rental car for her. And I think you should get checked out if you are still feeling off tomorrow! Sending you hugs and prayers for a quick resolution!

Ohhh! CINDY! You poor thing!!! That's awful! I'm glad you weren't seriously hurt, but please do not ignore how you're feeling. Sometimes our bodies go into shock before we start feeling the affects of trauma. Being forced forward and then back very quickly and with force can really cause some problems, even if it didn't seem to have too much of an immediate affect. If you're still feeling funny tomorrow, please just get checked out to be safe. We went through this a few years back, so I know. And I'm SO sorry about your car.. Have you spoken to the other guy's insurance company - or yours? Perhaps there is a provision for a temporary rental vehicle. I would think they have to pay for it, of course - the other person was at fault! I'm not sure whether or not that is a tort issue, but I would definitely contact someone's insurance asap. You should not have to be walking around in sub-freezing weather - they need to be taking care of you, dear sister! I will be praying for you... I hope you will have all of your needs met very soon!

Hugs -

Nini

I'm so sorry for the loss of your car, but SOOOO thankful you are not hurt. You probably are stressed . . I know I would be.
Those kind of things can just through such a "loop" in things. Hang in there! I'll pray for you and all the business that needs tending to.
