Hi girls! Haven't been on much lately . . . doesn't it sometimes just seem like the day gets away from you way too quickly?! Or at least it does to me!

Just thought I would give you an update on my hand injury from the table saw. I had over 30 stitches. I am fortunate that they did dissolving stitches, since some of them were layered on top of each other. Most of the stitches have dissolved already, but there are still some on the finger I nearly lost (my ring finger). On Thursday I went in for a check up. On my last visit they had extended the amount of time I would have the rod in my finger until mid to late January. So I as shocked when, this check up, they decided they could go ahead and remove the rod! I am so glad that I didn't have warning . . . I would have been stressing about it. It was miserable though . . . the two shots they did in my finger to numb it hurt like a son of a gun . . . because fingers have so many nerves . . . which is also why this injury was so painful to begin with. They then cut an "x" on the end of my finger and pulled it out with pliers. Ron insisted I keep the rod. I asked him if the "rod fairy" was going to leave me money on my pillow!

My middle finger, while not as severely cut as my ring finger, had the most swelling and now has the most numbness. One entire side is completely numb and the end of my finger always alternates between a burning and a freezing sensation. The doctor said the numbness and hot and cold sensations could last for at least a year. I also am dealing with keloids on two of my fingers. Keloids are abnormal regrowth of scar tissue . . . basically the healing of scar tissue over works and it heals with an irregular bump. If there was no pain, they would leave them, but mine are painful . . . feel like there are splinters in them or something, so they are watching them and may eventually remove them.

I start hand therapy Tuesday to improve my mobility, work on the numbness (I think they do some finger massaging) and they even do some kind of pressure therapy on the keloids to help break them up. I actually wrote a two sentence note today . . . it was messy, but I did it and felt like a proud little kid first learning how to write my ABCs!

Decorating for Christmas this year was slow with one hand. But I eventually got it done . . . just did some things a bit more simple and gave up the idea of outside lights . . . the first time in over 20 years we haven't had lights outside. Next year! But it looks pretty and I am happy with our simpler decor this year. I did post pics of it on my blog (my first blog post in a month! LOL!) here: http://www.pastblessings.com/2013/12/come-take-christmas-home-tour-of-past.html

Hugs & Blessings,

Brenda

Your Christmas decorations are spectacular!
If that is what you can accomplish with one hand it must be quite the display when you have two!
thanks for sharing.

Brenda,
So glad your wounds are healing. Praying for a complete recovery.
My son had a similar accident with the saw and he lost the tip of his finger.
He had a mess for a long time but thank God it wasn't worse. He now wears gloves to use it.
Safety at all times is the motto for him now.
So glad things are working out well and praying therapy goes well for you too!
hugs,

Denise

P.S. Your home is BEAUTIFUL and, I agree with "Calicogirl" that it's far more than "simple".
BEAUTIFUL!

Brenda,

I am so so sorry that you had this accident and all of the pain involved. I cannot even begin to imagine. Your home looks beautiful, simple? I don't think so. Charming for sure. I am continuing to keep you in prayer for healing and relief from pain and discomfort. Have a Blessed Christmas Brenda!

I hope the Mistletoe Fairy knows the Rod Fairy and they conspire to help you heal and feel better. Hands and fingers are things that most people take for granted. I'm glad you're improving and hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

Yikes! Brenda! You are the most bravest, strongest, awesomest farmgirl ever! I would've fainted! You're amazing! You SHOULD be proud of yourself! And yes! I hope the "rod fairy" brings you something special for sure! You DESERVE it!!! I am praying for you to have complete and speedy healing. I am so sorry you're going through this. You are just so amazing to me!!!

And I love your holiday home! That may be simple to you, but to me, it encompasses Christmas love - simply Heavenly! You've inspired me to get crackin'... Right now, our tree is up, but all I've done is cover it with the soft glow of white lights and sprigs of berries. Simple, but sweet and serene... We also have put up the lights on the front porch, but that's it. I have been debating even doing anything else, but after seeing what you've accomplished despite your setbacks, I know I can - and should - do it, too. Thanks for the Christmas cheer and inspiration! :)

God bless you and bring about your speedy healing! Merry, Merry Christmas, sister!

Hugs -

Nini

Brenda, I am so happy to hear of your progress. I completely agree that it is best to not have been able to anticipate the removal of the rod!! Best wishes on your therapy. I suspect there will be a bit of three steps forward, one step back with the numbness and feelings in your fingertips.

It is an understatement to say your home looks beautiful. Your talent was not damaged in the least from your injury.

Happy Holiday, Marianne
