I'm not sure if this is in the right place. If it isn't please forgive me and put it where you think it is best suited

This year has been a year of unexpected. Not the ordinary kind of unexpected but life changing unexpected. Many things have thrown me for a loop and while I think I've dealt with them reasonably well (i.e. I'm not on America's Most Wanted or a permanent resident at the local mental health ward) I let a lot of things fall by the wayside. Now that I'm getting my bearings back, I realize that those things that fell to the wayside are things that need to be picked up, dusted off and appropriately dealt with. Having acknowledged this, I am starting my New Years THIS month. By the end of this month I will have revamped the budget, set up the new home improvement "to do list," and a few other odds and ends.

I've noticed over the past few years that I don't wait until the new year to start my resolutions. I like to think that as it takes 21 days to acquire a habit, I will have begun my new habits while everyone else is still getting over the holiday season.

Does anyone else start planning for the new year months in advance? If so, what are some of things you do?

Great ideas, girls. I think you are brilliant for starting now. And I think we should all keep in mind that if we slip, we can always start again tomorrow. We don't have to wait until a new week, month or year comes along.

Love the time tracker!

You are so smart for not tying goals to "New Years resolutions", which inevitably fail. You have inspired me to start thinking about and committing to paper a few things that I want to change.

On the subject of inspiration, the post about how to make your own meeting binders is a HUGE inspiration…except it might cause a problem for those of you trying to cut back on crafting time : ) I will be making one of theses snazzy binders soon for some personal goals.

To try to keep a handle on my crafting time (or whatever), I use a thing that is really meant for kids but it works really well for me. It is called a "TimeTracker" and it is different from setting an alarm, although it is a timer. It allows you to customize the timer for whatever amount of time you want, and for 80% of that time its GREEN light will show. Once you reach the 80% mark, the yellow light flashes and you can also set it for a sound to go off. THIS IS THE KEY because you now know it is time to start wrapping up this activity. When only 5% of the time is left, its red light starts flashing and your chosen sound goes off.

I think this works so very well because using a regular timer or alarm clock, it is too easy to be in the middle of something important when the darn thing goes off, and then it is too easy to keep going and ignore the time you were trying to control. That warning at the 80% mark lets you get to a point that is suitable for stopping your work.

If I can figure out how to embed a link to this little creature, I will. Otherwise, look for it on amazon.com.

I am very much a list-maker, and generally stay on task. But I am always finding area where I need improvement.

We have gone over our budget for the year and I will be looking at places to cut expenses and make our financial goals for next year.

Resolution #1. My big area, is to plan my meals better and be more prepared for dinner-time. I tend to lose my grip on the meals quite often.

Resolution #2. I really dislike people. And I love to be reclusive. On the flip-side. I love my job and my boss. So I need to find a way to enjoy being out of the house and around people. Without letting people affect my emotional health. This one is one I have been working on for a lifetime and have no idea how to change myself so people don't affect me so much.

Resolution #3. If #2 doesn't work out soon......I need to find a legitimate job where I can work from home. In order to keep myself healthy and happy.

I also had a year of big changes.

I have already started reorganizing my life in the following ways:

1) I wake every morning at 7 AM and actually get out of bed and begin my day. My dog loves this because sometimes the rabbits are out in the morning and she likes to chase them.

2) My appointments and meetings are kept in a central location for my husband to reference (which I have to train him to do) and in a nice paper calendar which I always have with me.

3) I am limiting myself to one swap per month.

4) I have a set schedule for housework, household finances, laundry (this includes ironing and mending) and crafting.

I have yet to find a way to work on the computer more efficiently, how to stick with a project until it is finished and how to find some time for myself. These tasks are next.
