I love taking the less traveled roads... you just never know what you will discover.... like small towns just melting away as a faint memory in history.
One town I was in snooping around recently was 'Chinese Camp City'...
the population is less than 100 now, yet it was at 126 just a few years ago and in the mid 1800's it was almost 3000....
The town has a dark history revolving around Gold and Chinese labor force.
Now this is just a sample of what is left.
and this last photo is from Jamestown
I know this happens not just on the back roads of Central California... but all around the USA...

While living up on the East side of Washington state... I would take off on little jaunts, and travel through small rural farm communities.... I wish I had taken more time and photos but I am now doing this here in Central Calif...
Even tho' so many small towns are disappearing,,,, to be forgotten except for a paragraph or two in some historical book... new communities are popping up.... but I think the days of small town parades, and Grange meetings is slipping away... to be replaced with instant gratification... Quilting Bees,,,, and Sewing Circles also struggle to not be forgotten.
All that being said,,, let's embrace it, and photograph it and pass it down to the next generation.... who knows, maybe we can hang onto the memories and small towns a bit longer.

I notice this about small old towns too. I am from the mid-west, and each time we travel into Illinois and Iowa, etc. it breaks my heart to see these places going away. I always say,, instead of building a million dollar house, for instance in the mountains of North Carolina, why not spend a million fixing up an old farmstead?

Its sad when there are towns being deserted, yet over crowding and the destruction of natural habitats in others.

That is a sad fact about small towns. Love the pictures. Would love to see a flash back to see what it was like back when those buildings were new. Wonder who lived in that yellow house and who sat on the porch?

Our little town of centerville has a population that fluctuates around twenty. In the 1800's it was around 800. With farming going out and industry gone there's nothing here.

Gracie...We have a lot of old Ghost Towns around here too. Both in Oregon and Washington.
Some of the towns people are bringing back to life and some just remain forever forgotten.
It is both sad and interesting all at the same time.
