My mother had given me her lovely Rosenthal dishes almost 10 years ago,,,, and I am heart broken that this is what I found in the carton,,, after the movers had long gone...
Thank goodness the rest of the set is ok...
Mom purchased them back in 1966, and these dishes have moved 3 times in Germany, and then to the States, and clear across the US....
I only lost one teacup on the move up to Spokane... but was not so fortunate on the move from Spokane, WA to California... 
I am really disappointed in the moving company... on many levels!
After I settle up with the insurance... I think I will save and use the broken bits in a mosic of some sort.

There are multiple websites for replacing China. Some are pricey. I broke a an antique gilt China plate that I got from my late grandmothers belongings. Couldn't find a replacement piece. It's a decorative plate. Did find other accessories though.

How sad! But I do love your idea for repurposing to keep them in the family. There are some great ideas posted on this thread. I like the idea of using them for a garden place setting or making a jewelry piece out of them.

I inherited an incomplete set of china from my grandmother which turned out to be pretty rare and hard to find. This company helped me to identify the pattern and over the course of several years I was able to collect the missing pieces.

I had some broken china peices that had come from my Grandma, I could never find replacements, but I just didn't have the heart to throw them out, so I made a place settings in the dirt (broken ends stuck in the ground) in my flower garden, even glueing pieces back together and stuck in the dirt, plus I used some long narrow pieces as plant markers, by writeing the name of the flower on the peice and sticking it in the ground...

I hear ya! (breakage)...
I don't think I have heard of Table top... so I will check them out.... ya just never know....
I know you are south of me... but, isn't it lovely weather today? I so love being back in sunny Cali..cuz there is snow on the ground up in "Snow-kane" WA. lol!

Grace Have you tried Tabletops Unlimited? They had my hard to find china pattern. We didn't have any china breakage on this move but the one from California to Washington was horrible.

I had scoured ebay and other sites in hopes of adding to my collection... but this particular set is very difficult to find... I have found it with the gold trim around the edge but not the green... I have been searching for 5years off and on....
One of my dear sweet fur babies accidently broke a plate and saucer (hopped up on the counter where she was not suppose to be) and a dear co-worker told me to bring her the pieces...so I did and she mosaicked a photo frame with the pieces... I luv it!
I have also seen jewelry made from bits of sweet china and am thinking that might be also an option....
So when life hands you lemons.... make lemonaide! :>)

When I lost a teacup in a move, from a set that had been my great aunt's I sent a piece to my mom and grandma. They are avid thrift shop and antique shoppers. Within a year I had that tea cup back and had added luncheon plates and bowls to the set. They now aren't all from my aunt but the collection has grown a little. So sorry for your loss though.
