Posted - Nov 07 2013 : 7:22:17 PM I've been the breadwinner of the house for several years as hubby goes to school to get his BS in Environmental Studies. I've looked for other jobs since the one I have is not fun anymore, nor is it challenging, and there are no raises. What I really want to do is write or be an editor or something, so... of to college I went! I'm almost halfway through this term already. The only downside (besides all the homework) is that my free time is so very limited now. Gone are the weekends where I'd bake cookies or piddle around in the yard. One day, I will have time for those things again.
I am going for a Bachelor of Arts in English. Exciting and scary at the same time, but I know it is the right thing to do.

Posted - Nov 19 2013 : 05:59:27 AM I have a B.A. in English and I'm currently working on a Masters in Public Relations. Don't let anyone tell you that English is not a "useful" degree (whatever the heck that means). The ability to analyze words and write clearly and succinctly are skills that are sorely lacking in today's work force.

I did that 2 1/2 years ago and this December I graduate with my AA then in the Spring I also start my BA in English. My concentration is Communication with Technical Writing. I have been subscribing to Poets and Writers now for about 3 years and can tell you that it is a great inspiration. You Go Girl!!!!!!!!!!!! Becky

Posted - Nov 07 2013 : 8:48:40 PM Check out the magazine Poets & Writers. It will inspire you to write more and then explains how to get published. The key to getting published is to keep submitting--that's where I tend to fail, as it usually costs a few $$ to submit a piece. I've written poems, short stories and I'm working on a novel. I plan to go to a poetry reading at a Whole Foods store tomorrow night--it gives me hope and inspiration. Browse the small bookstores where you live and you might find local writing groups. Good luck and don't ever quit! Cindy
