For those who didn't see my first post, this is our second opinion on an inspection of our wood stove and piping.

Posted - Nov 01 2013 : 06:27:42 AM Amish is about 2 1/2 hours from us. We are searching for a stove. The quotes from the professionals (approx) are:
$2,900.00 for a wood stove, new piping, and installation $3,900.00 for a pellet stove etc
We don't have a lot of choices.
Hubby and I got into a fight about what to do, considering we have drained our emergency account (too many of those pesky problems this year alone). I'm so stressed about it, I have a huge headache, and neck soreness. I didn't sleep at all. Neither did he.
So, while I am at the store today, I am buying myself some bagels. I'm going to toast one and slather butter on it (one of my go-to stress treats). I'm going to enjoy that bagel immensely. Then, I am going to unplug from the internet all weekend, and power clean my bedroom. Then I will reward myself with a new hangbag. That's my cure for stress anyway.
Then, we'll have to make a decision, to go the bank or not (if we can't find a used stove of some sort ourselves).

Posted - Nov 01 2013 : 05:58:28 AM Kristina, don't you have Amish communities near by? Is it possible to search their community for a used stove that is still safe to use? I know the Amish often have these big farm auction events where they sell all sorts of equipment and animals. Even if you don't find one, you might get some good leads by talking with the people about how to find an affordable stove. Or maybe find a second hand one through craigslist in a nearby town? I hope you find an affordable solution real soon. Keep us posted and good luck!

Posted - Nov 01 2013 : 03:53:41 AM It's cracked on the back (inside) from the bottom to the top. We could weld, but it's not safe from what we are told.

Posted - Oct 31 2013 : 1:36:37 PM why does the cleaner say your stove is "fried", my wood stove is 120 plus years old (Montgomery Wards), and still is in working condition (it is our only source of heat), we replace the pipes every few years no matter what, just to be on the safe side since they go thru the ceiling and roof...

Posted - Oct 31 2013 : 12:25:19 PM Kristina...praying for your situation farmgirl. I hate when stuff like that happens!!! For me it is always has to do with cars. We just put 650.00 into one car and go outside the next day and have a flat tire on it. Hubby takes a closer look and says he really should replace all 4 tires. Great..where is that money going to come from. And my car needs worked on. GRRR!! I know your frustration...believe me.
hugs, Peggy

Posted - Oct 31 2013 : 08:13:11 AM Bad news....ugh.... Good news was that the last chimney sweep was not telling us the truth - piping is fine (my instincts were right to get the second inspection).
Bad news....stove is fried. We don't have the cash to replace it, and we cannot use electric here.
