Did you see the news that there is someone dressed up as a "creepy clown" and terrorizing citizens of Northampton, UK...by just standing there or waving? People are really freaked out about it. I don't know...are clowns really that creepy? As a kid, I loved Bozo. My Bozo the clown doll was one of my favorites, and I used to love to draw them. The pediatrician's office when I was a little kid was done up in Hobo clowns. I never really found them creepy, but I know so many people who really do, including my dd. Course, if there was one standing in my yard I guess I'd freak, but just on the street? Are they that creepy to you? For me, it is Darth Vader. He gives me the willies. And the rock band KISS. If they are on tv I have to change the channel or leave the room. In the spirit of Halloween, what gives you the creepy-crawlies?

I've read that people have been afraid of clowns for centuries. There's even a name for it Coulrophobia.

I don't like clowns either. I have no idea why, but they just give me the creeps for some reason. Maybe I got scared by one when I was little :-)

LOL! Your hubby sounds like my hubby, Nicole! You poor thing! I feel for you!

You know, clowns creeped me out when I was little; then the movie, "Poltergeist" had me unnerved by clown dolls. Nowadays, those mannequins at Old Navy kind of bother me - don't you think they're a bit creepy, too? My son can't stand them.

Sherone,
That's my daughter too. She will run the other way, same with anyone in a "character suit" like a mascot. It was a big move for her to go to Disney and get photos with costumed characters like Mickey and Minnie. At one point, two characters from "The Jungle Book" cornered us and hugged us both. They were huge and fuzzy, and well-meaning, but I thought she was going to pass out. We had a huge laugh over that. But she draw the line at clowns. Period.

Okay, did see the creepy clown from the UK. He does look creepy. And really, what is the point other than to get noticed?

I really don't like Darth Vader, since I was a little kid. DH bought a Halloween costume once of Darth Vader for a party. I warned him never to scare me with the darn thing. Every once in awhile, I will open a closet door or cabinet, and there is Darth's head. Sigh...

Oh...I have a long term deep seated fear of clowns. I have not idea why....maybe I need therapy. I will turn around and run if I see one. One time, a well meaning clown tried to hug me. I turned into a flesh shredding she-cat and I think that clown will never be the same.

Cindy...I have to agree with you lots of body piercings gross me out...and especially if they are young kids with acne. Double Gross for me!!!

I have always loved clowns...but my step kids hated clowns when they were young.
I don't like sad clowns...just Happy Clowns!

Nicole...I did see a picture of the Clown ~ He wasn't Happy...so maybe that is what creeps
people out.

Hugs and Smiles,
Peggy

For me it's people with multiple body piercings--eyebrows, nose, lips, cheeks, belly button and who knows what else. And if they're covered with tattoos as well--ugh! I do think some clowns are creepy, but I watched shows with clowns when I was young and I liked them. I thought the Borgs in Star Trek: the Next Generation, were creepy. People were never meant to wear excessive amounts of hardware.
