I bet we are a bunch of Quirky Farm Girls! I'll start:

I cannot wash my kitchen towels in the same load as my bathroom towels. I can't. Even if it causes small loads, it's just wrong.

I cannot drink the last drink: of coke, coffee, tea, milkshake...anything. It drives my kids crazy!

I cannot leave a shopping cart in the parking lot. I have to take it back to the store, or into a cart corral.

I cannot cross a state line without lifting my feet into the air to "jump" over the line. My dad taught me that.

Looking forward to seeing your quirks!

Blessings!

Sharone, I'm with you on the shoe thing...can't stand them. I did learn to carry a pair with me when I got caught in a white-out snow storm and couldn't drive up our driveway, so I had to walk thru the snow in my flip-flops. Talk about some cold toes!

How fun....

I always have at least craft projects going at one time.

I hate wearing shoes. I wear flip flops in the winter with wool socks.

This has been so much fun to read...some things that I can't do...or tolerate others doing...

Leaving a shopping cart in the middle of a handicap parking space...
My sweet Kitty passed away recently...but I could not go even one day without cleaning his litter box...
Talking out loud in church services...so rude and disrespectful...
One of my greatest issues is people throwing trash out their car window...irks me:)

Hugs!

Fun thread Shanda!

~I also have to put the cart away when shopping and list is according to the aisles.
~When fixing coffee or tea, after putting sugar in the cup I stir in a figure eight until dissolved.
~After washing my hands I 'shake' or more like fling water from my hands 3 times before grabbing the towel.
~My clothes in the closet are hung by item and then by color.

Peggy, I am with you on first dibs on reading a magazine :)

Nini and Shanda I missed the human soup but here is a funny: There is a restaurant in our town called Hunan's. It is an Asian restaurant. We found a big typo on their menu when we went there a couple of years ago. Human Stir Fry (instead of Hunan Stir Fry). Ummm, let's leave ;)

Its interesting to me that some of the things I thought of as perfectly normal are listed here!

Of course we should put away shopping carts! It's not the busy moms or elderly who leave them out, its strong young men.
Make your grocery list by aisles, makes sense, saves time and marking coupon items? Perfectly normal.
Put dishes away by groups? Yes
Adding things to the to-do list after they are done so they can be crossed out, reminds me of what is accomplished, but is also an excuse that I was doing something useful if something already there wasn't accomplished.

One personal thing that will probably seem strange to many is I hang clothes on coordinating color plastic hangers and then arrange them by type, all the sleeveless, then short sleeve, longer sleeves, etc. An old friend once said, " Its so neat in your cupboards." We both knew the rest of the house that shows wasn't.

I kind of wish I had some of the neatness habits listed above. It would look so much neater and more serene if I did!

Thanks for starting this thread, it's fun!

I like the idea of writing the grocery list out with the layout of the store. I try not to go to the interior of the store, but rather stay around the outside rim. That way I don't get to many processed foods.

Oh I am so happy to hear I am not alone in my quirkiness! Here are some of my weird tendencies:

I cannot leave my house without triple checking that nothing is plugged in in the bathroom. This stems from my DH telling me stories of his college house fire (even though that was not caused by a hair appliance)

My dining chairs have to be pushed in at the table neatly.

The pillows on the bed, couch and chairs need to be tidy.

I am fairly OCD and write my grocery list out by the layout of the store and then go back and draw a star by any items that I have a coupon for. I shop through the store by the way my list is written, doing it backwards would simply drive me nuts.

I also cannot stand bumper stickers that are almost centered but not quite on the car ahead of me.

Ok, here's a couple of mine:
When I fix my plate at supper time, my food absolutely can not touch.
When I use my IPad, I always have to have the "Home" button on the left side.
I put the dishes away in groups: plates, then bowls, glasses, etc.
I also check the front door to make sure it is shut before I leave for the day.
I could go on, but those are just what sprang to mind.

I was laughing when I read some of your quirks, because so many of us do the same.

Madaline, my husband keeps remarking about how I never like to be late and arrive early even for church events so I can find my seat, (we only have 20 people who attend! ) but I like to be on time! keeps asking me really do you think there is not enough room.
I check my blinds from the road as I drive up and greet the teenagers with -go fix your window we do not live like... cannot stand blinds in disarray.

Peggy as for decorating for every season, way to go. I try but not for every one of them . I even decorate the master bathroom, and guest room, no body to know or enjoy them but me. We are such a funny bunch.

I cannot go to bed with dishes in the sink because I hate getting up with my kitchen a mess.

I try to straighten up the living room every night before I go to bed also.

I don't like any one reading my magazines or newspaper before I do. I want them pristine.
And I put the news paper neatly back together and in order...before passing it on to someone
else to read.

I am a neat freak and it has been known to drive my husband and kids bonkers. BUT now it is
just hubby and me (all kids grown and on their own)...I make my husband keep his messiness
all in his room. In his room he can be as messy as he wants...but if that messiness starts
working it's way into my living space...I have a fit and make him carry it back into his
domain. I can at least close his door if we have company.

I decorate for every Holiday ~ no matter how small both inside my apartment and in the foyer.
My husband thinks I should get over it...because I am the only one who cares about it.
Exactly...and that's why I continue to do it. I ENJOY IT...and that is all that matters.
To me Life is a Celebration to be enjoyed not just tolerated.

I am always early to every appointment and my husband is late to everything.

I guess that is enough about my Quirkiness.

Hugs and Joy,
Peggy

Oh good gravy... Shanda! I'm so sorry! I was in a rush - AGAIN - today and deleted my post. Thought I was signing in, hit the button and bye bye silly words... I did save some of them so I'll try to post again later tonight. Glad the human soup made you laugh... Pretty gross when you think about it, though, huh? LOL!

Maddie - I hate being late, too - I do the same thing! LOL!

Okay you all named a whole bunch of my quirks so lets see if I can add some new ones. I am never late, God forbid, I will arrive 30 minutes early, sit & read if I must. I check to see if my curtains & blinds are tidy from the road. Put my decorations out the same days every year. Have to tidy up my craft studio before I craft, I move into purses, not just throw everything in I have to arrange everything a certain way, Must have shiny maintained boots & shoes, have been known to polish them walking out the door LOL. My gosh I could go on & on but I will say one last thing I LOVE my Arc Organizer & it goes everywhere with me :-)

I can not stand when the doors are open, on drawers, closets. so I go around shutting all of them
I can not stand to get into a bed that is not made, so I make it before I crawl in. (my husband lays down every evening before going to work third)
I wash all my dishes before I put them in the dishwasher .drives the teenagers crazy they ask whats the dishwasher for then?
I always return shopping carts and have my children pick up any stays on the way to the cart corral.
I go insane if my table is a mess and have to straighten it before I can walk through the kitchen.
When we go over railroad tracks we lift our feet. So we do not drag.. :)
I make a to do list and have to check it off, and add items that I completed if I forgot to put it on in the first place, just to cross it off.

Oh, dear.
Best stop there.

Do you think I am nuts
oldbittyhen Posted - Sep 15 2013 : 1:32:15 PM
every eve, when I am sitting on my front porch listening to the animals sleep, I count the porch lights of my neighbors , that I can see, and if any porch lights are not on (and there should always be 9 of them), I drive by those places in the morn to make sure nothing is out of place, and yes I know it really sounds OCD, but one time , when I did my drive by, one of those neighbors had been laying in their barn with a badly broken leg, and her closet neighbor never heard her crys...

Arrtie, and I too, get all pissy when someone else scratches out anything on MY todo list,lol...

Oh Boy....

All the dining room chairs need to be pushed into the table.

All the beds need to be made before we leave the house in the morning.

I can NOT tear open bags of any kind. I need to cut them with scissors to open them.

I cannot push a shopping cart that has a squeak or a wobbly wheel. I will walk all the back to the front of the store to get a new one.

I cannot stand it when somebody else scratches out items on my 'to do' list.

I could go on and on. I drive my family crazy. Thank God they love me.

I can't leave the house or go to bed without making sure all the couch pillows, lap quilts and downstairs is straightened up. Hate coming home or getting up to a mess.

Unless I'm in a hurry I hang out my clothes in groups ; pants, shirts,etc. Hmmm...am I a bit OCD? :/

I don't consciously leave a bit of drink in my glass or food on my plate but I do and hubby must comment on repeatedly. I think it stems from my Dad telling me as a child to 'clean up your plate ' or 'drink the rest of your milk.'
