So....what would you do the first chance you had an entire day (okay, for a good part of the day) without anyone else home?

He he! I'm enjoying this so much, I fear I will spend it all on here today.

First, I am going to exercise, and then water animals. But I am thinking of spending hours writing, and skipping the house cleaning. I may not even make the bed (such a rebel I am).

Oh....a day to myself! The joy! I may even spend time on the porch now that Hubby got it cleaned off again.

With my grandkids living here this summer, I got up early, made a cup of coffee and went out on the porch and savor the peace in my garden. I loved listening to the birds and our resident frog. We have more than one in our garden, but this little guy is quite vocal. I love hearing him. I live in a suburb, on a busy street. So being able to hear anything in the natural world is wonderful. Once the coffee was drunk up, the grandkids and hubby would greet me. Then the day began.....
Now they are back home and in school. The peace is overwhelming, but really good. I have so many quilts to make, aprons to sew and so many projects--it's like WOW! will they ever get done! More canning this fall, but little batches. I still sneak out to enjoy my coffee on the porch--until Mother Nature decides it's really fall--rain and wind to come. I figure I'll just bundle up and do it anyway.

If I had a day to myself, hopefully in the dead of winter so there are no outside chores other than critters, I would putter around my craft room. Maybe a little sewing or painting. Or I might take a needlework project and sit down in front of a good movie and stitch, or knit, or whatever. I would just let my mind drift and follow wherever it takes me. Sounds lovely just thinking about it.

I only had a few of those days this week, but boy did I relish in them. I had lunch on the porch (sadly, have been too "busy" to even go out there much), and finished a book. I have been working on one of my passions (making homemade Christmas ornaments)too. I made homemade iced tea and sipped it while spending time writing (another passion I neglect), and even wrote a few folks.

Years ago, I made a "Possibilities" book, somewhat like a scrapbook. I am so happy to say that I could print a photo of our camper (a dream of mine) and place it in the book. Another one I had in there, was to get in shape and stay that way. I am down 22 pounds now, and am so thrilled to go back through and read my "book." It was very inspiring for me, and encourages me to continue to not work so hard (or worry about the small stuff).

Annie . . . Yup! Yessirree!
This year I've made the decision to not push so hard on my sewing for Farmers Market! It's hard for this overachiever, workaholic, "recovering" perfectionist farmgirl to do that. But, I just had to for my own well-being.
Sooooooo glad I did!

(And, yes, I'm a senior citizen . . . time to enjoy some of what life offers!)

And that is why in my older age and empty nest I do whatever I want, whenever I want. Some days the bed is not made, and other days there are dishes in the sink, because I learned work in ongoing and never done. Growing up I was never allowed to play until all the work was done, but it left little time for fun. It took years to undo all that seriousness. It is best to have some work, more play, and be more free flowing, learning to set boundaries with those we care about. "Oh, I am too tired for that today my sweet munchkins, so mommy is going to get some fresh air....". "Oh, my sweet dear one, I need a break because I can't afford to become ill from lack of time for myself so today is my play day!" Take time for fun while you can. Remember, I am the one who lost several girlfriends all under the age of 55 due to various forms of cancer. Not one of them got to realize their retirement dreams. You must enjoy each day breaking it up into segments that offer balanced living while tending to your responsibilities. :-) Annie

Me neither... My summer was supposed to be weekdays of days to myself... Oh, and did I have plans! Sadly, I let everyone know how excited I was about that... Suddenly, they weren't days that belonged to me, anymore! LOL!

I hope you enjoyed every minute of today, Kristina! You sure are deserving!

Good for you Kristina!

Savor it! I am hoping to get one of those days soon myself. It will probably be spent reading (I am always interrupted ;P), or creating something fun :)

I'm wondering the same thing myself! Rosemary is in school, and its my last day off before I go back. I always whine about not having any time to myself, then the day comes and I'm stumped! Thrifting? A little crafting? Indian for lunch? I'm lost!

I love having the day to myself. I cannot wait until school starts and I get some time alone in my house. I love to decorate and clean and quilt and bake.....................aaahhhhhhhh! peacefulness.

Enjoy!
