Posted - Aug 13 2013 : 05:47:44 AM So we're home from the State Fair, and here are the results...
Gumbo Garden (Floriculture B) project: SUPERIOR RATING! Judge (a master gardener) says "I learned more in 10 minutes talking with you...)
Also, the beautiful neon afghan that went in the open show: BLUE RIBBON - 1ST PLACE! Now here's the really great story - last summer, it went to our county fair as her Heritage Arts Fiber project. It didn't even earn State Fair Alternate because of her judge was pulled over from foods when the original judge cancelled at the last minute. It wasn't even designated to be judged to go on to the State Fair. A different judge who recognized how awesome it was pulled it at the last minute, but still no votes for State.
So this year she entered it in the open show at the State Fair. And, because there is no category for it in the Junior Division, she entered it in the adult division. And she took first place. Success is the best revenge!
Just so amazingly proud of her!

Posted - Aug 04 2013 : 09:20:21 AM My husband and I will be going, along with my aunt. Springfield is a 3 hour drive for us, and Princess has early check-in (9 am). We will be on the road that day by 5:30 because we'll also have to park and walk to her exhibit hall. My niece is also going to the State Fair for garment construction, and she will also have early judging. My sister and BIL and Niece's BFF are all going down the night before. We are hoping to see Princess get judged then run like maniacs to the building my niece will be judged in and see her, too. We're praying for 2 Superior ratings, just like the girls got last year.
Princess also entered an afghan she made last year in the State Open Show, so after judging we'll be heading over to that building, hopefully to see a wonderful blue ribbon!
