We've all been busy bees around here, cleaning up the mess that was the May 19th tornado. I just put up a new post at he blog with pictures plus a video of our tornado as it passed over us that I found on Youtube. You can catch it at http://www.oklahomapastrycloth.com/blog/?p=6957

Well, we are surrounded by smoke this morning! It would seem that the West Fork Complex fire which includes the town of South Fork, CO (now evacuated), the Papoose Fire around Lake City/Creede has grown to the largest wildfire in Colorado (not the most destructive . . yet) and it's a LONG way away. But it is now sending smoke all the way over to our corner of the state!
That is only one of the active fires in our state . . . many other in other Western states.
RAIN DESPERATELY NEEDED . . . without LIGHTNING!
Please pray!

Mary Beth . . . I think that fire is quite a distance away, up in the mountains. I don't think there is any threat to the city.

Nope, Nini, fires threaten South Fork, Creede . . . the West Fork Complex spans 70,000 acres in the southern part of the state on the other side of the Rockies. And, one north of Pagosa Springs which is on this side of Wolf Creek Pass. The Arizona Doce fire near Prescott, AZ covers 7000 acres and is only 15% contained.

We are on the Western Slope and it no less dry than the Front Range . . . we just hope and pray! Our county has a ban on ALL kinds of fires, same thing that was in place a year ago. It's very unnerving! All the "Fire Danger" signage indicators are at "extreme", red.

Thank you for your prayers!

Oh my goodness, Mary Beth... My heart aches for all of you. I'm so glad you're okay. I am just so moved by the way people have come together like this to help each other without a word or second thought. Beautiful. Life-giving. God bless you all. You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

CJ - I didn't realize the fires were still burning! Last report I heard, they were fairly certain they had contained them! I totally misunderstood. We'll be praying for you all, too, for sure.

Glad to hear your update, Mary Beth!
Yes, prayers for Colorado and other states on fire! So far, the fires are still far away from our corner of the state, however, we are at great risk for fire because it is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO DRY and we are having afternoon winds. Yes, very dry and perilous! Because of the South Fork fire Wolf Creek pass is closed and it is a major highway for east/west travel. It is also heavy forest and at great risk!
Thanks for your prayers and concerns!

Yes, Coaloha, our power is back on. It is amazing to see how much has been accomplished in three weeks. The homes behind us have already been bulldozed and workers are already rebuilding. I could hear hammers and talking today, as sound carries a long way out here. Things will take time to get back to normal but it sure is going fast!

Mary Beth,

I am just so glad that you were prepared and that you and yours came through the storm safely. How are people doing now that the storm is a few weeks behind you? Is your power back on?

Warmly,
Pam

Mary Beth,
Thank you for sharing your neighborhood's story, and all of the pictures. I was so glad to hear that you and your family and home were safe, and that most of what was lost in this tragedy were things. When watching the footage and seeing the pictures it amazes me that the loss of life was not far greater- and for that I am so thankful. I am not underscoring the severity, but praising God that this did not turn out far worse. Things can be replaced.
We as Americans are so powerful, and can put aside our differences and help one another so much during times like this. That is what makes our communities and our country so great.
God Bless!
Hugs,

~Laurie

Mary Beth,
Thankful you are safe! I'm soooo sorry for the devastation and tradegy! Have been and will continue to pray.
We lost our house and backwoods to an arson fire 19 years ago and I understand cleaning up that kind of a monumental mess!
Hang in there!

Mary Beth, how Blessed you are to have remained safe through this horrific event. I am so sad to hear of all the homes around you. We went through a severe flood several years back. Those are life altering events for sure, life is different to follow those type of life events both mentally and physically. Prayers for you and your community as you all get through this.
