Well, I couldn't hold back any longer. I did it. I started a blog. I wish I knew how to put a link here. But, as many of you know, computers aren't my forte. Here's the address: ragstoroses.blogspot.com. Rags to Roses is the name of our NC farm.

Okay, maybe there is hope for me. I was able to edit my profile and make it is my "homepage" on the first line here. There's the link, whew.

I've been thinking about it lately...starting a Blog. It is so much fun reading others' blogs. My favorites are the ones about families on the farm. But, I have noticed that lots of folks start them, then abandon the effort. What do you think? Have you done it? Did you stick with it? Why or why not? What are the advantages? Disadvantages? Is it time consuming? Is it hard to download pictures? Is it rewarding? Is it creepy? What is the bottom line on Blogs?

Hey Rebekah,
I tried Blogspot and some of the other freebies but I just liked the feel and ease of Typepad best.
Also, I was able to add pretty pictures to mine without knowing any HTML. You can probably do that with the others but I could not figure it out as easily as I did with Typepad. Just my two cents worth.
I have Fairies in my woods too!

Lindy, Your question about where my Farm is inspired my second post on my Blog. Why did you chose typepad? Is it much better than the freebies? And, Mary Beth, I sure do need some of that good luck. I have only made friends with my compter as of late. Before that it was definitely my enemy! I'm curious to see if I can actually do this Blog thing!

Lindy,

I posted a comment on your blog, I couldn't resist when I saw both the hat and the display. They're both so sweet!

Hey Rebekah,
I started my blog right after I joined MJF. I saw all of the wonderful pages here that belonged to the other ladies and decided that I had to have one.
I try to do it every day but sometimes I just can't. It is a lot of fun though and so neat when someone actually reads and comments about something that you wrote or a picture that you took.
It is amazing to think that the random thoughts that go through my head are actually interesting to someone else.
I love the name of your farm. Where in NC is it? We are outside of Charlotte, NC.

ps I use typepad. It costs me $8.00 per mo

If you look at the top of this page by your name you will see to the right of log out 'FAQ' well click on there and it will tell you how to add links. It took me awhile but I figured it out. Blogs are kinda fun. Good luck, Rebekah

Bonnie, how did you put your blog link there? I've really got no idea what I'm doing. But, it's true. I love reading everyone else's blogs. I've enjoyed the photo a day blogs too. Bramble, your turn!

I'm a 2 month blogger...I thought I would never do it, but after finding this forum and "meeting" the gals here and seeing different blogs, I was interested. It's been fun, relaxing and keeps me inspired in my crafting. I don't know maybe I need to get a life! But I really do enjoy it.

I think a blog is a great place for friends and family to get caught up on what you are doing and also for you as a participant on a forum not to monopolize another site with just "you" as does seem to happen. I tend to be blabby as we all know and haven't started one yet, but I sure have enjoyed seeing everyone's so far! I love that Sue (Junebug) has three based on topics that interest her!

Rebekah .. i'm one of those gurlz who 'abandoned' blogging after starting one .. i found that it took MUCH longer for me to download photos (and even postings) than i thought it would. it takes awhile to put them here too .. so i don't post pics too often. I find that my Kentucky Ramblers and Treasure Seekers list (via e-mail) works sooooooooooooooooooooooo much better, faster and more efficient for me .. and ONLY those who REQUEST to be on this list get my ramblings and pictures .. no strangers or strange comments ever. i post my 'ramblings' on several 'forums' that i am on .. but rarely with pictures. i also find that i rarely go to look at blogs .. i would never get outta' this chair if i did.

i am glad blogs are available though for those who do wish to use and read them. xo

I love blogging and I find Wordpress to be super easy to use in conjunction with photobucket for picture hosting...

Well, I started mine last night but for now it will just hold my thoughts and activities so i can share with family and friends. Not sure if I will move away from that idea with it. Now to narrow down all the ideas I have to put on it.

Great topic. I plan to start a blog in January when we start our super frugal living project. We already tightwad, but hubby is realy into self sufficency so we are going to see if we can make it through one year with out buying. We will have to purchase some food we do not produce yet, gas for transportation, and a few toiletries. We havent quite made out all the rules yet, but they will be posted in the first entry. I'll have to come back to this post when it gets closer to time to start.

yes one person criticised me and yes you can delete comments but I left it. I felt it was a valid point of view so I didn't mind. I haven't received any rude ones. The one I got I considered constructive critism. Yes you can delete unwanted posts. I deleted some of my own when I noticed typing errors and just redid them you can do the same to others to. I think it is rewarding all my family lives in texas california and oregan not near utah so it lets them know what I am up to. I have also received invietes to do repair work through it so it helps the pocket book a little too. Mine takes about 1 hour when I post because I try to come up with an idea then take photos to match then edit the photos to looklike I want for every photo you see on my blog there are probably 5 or more I trashed and two or three more that I edited before trashing. So far so good.

have a lovely day and may God bless you and keep you safe

I've enjoyed you Farmgirls' input and advice on this. Keep it coming!
I have looked at the blogs from those who responded and they are all so lovely. Everybody has a story to tell. The internet offers an opportunity to tell it to a much bigger audience. Sunshine, have you had to deal with the criticism issue? Can you delete unwelcome comments? Do you guys find the experience rewarding? How much of your time does it actually take? What are your reasons behind doing it? Has the blog experience met your expectations?

I have my own website and it has a blog feature. I tried posting to it but just couldn't manage to keep up with it. I don't have a very interesting life and I didn't really think anyone looked at it. But that is me! I may try it again in the winter when things slow down a bit.

Just remember when blogging to never post anything you wouldn't want your employer (or your next employer, or customers, or clients) to read. Sometimes we feel so anonymous on the Internet but it's not really so...

I have been thinking about it a lot lately also. I know I would find time but I just haven't started yet. Such a great way to share one's life with friends, family and people who may just like to be nosey about what a person is up to ( I am always nosey but I usually learn something or find inspiration).

Rebekah,
Aunt Jenny is right, blogspot is much easier to post pictures to, but it can be tempermental. They are doing upgrades now, so perhaps that has something to do with it.

I enjoy my blog alot, and post there every few days, just depending on what life has on its' agenda for me. Aunt Jenny and I read each other's blogs regularly! It's a great way to keep in touch.

In order to avoid spam comments, when you set up your blog, set it up to have commenters enter a passcode that they provide for each comment entry. This is a good protection.

Give it a try. As in all things, moderation is the key.

My husband and I both have blogs. We keep up with it, but I think it's mainly because we both will have an experience in our day and we just feel compelled to blog about it.
Some people are like this I guess. If you feel like you just have to blog about your experiences, then you will keep up with it.

I like it and enjoy reading other people's blogs too. I think putting pictures on the blog is alot easier than posting them here since you don't have to have them on a site like photobucket first..just download them straight from your computer..easy..but blogger isnt' always working just right. It IS a free thing so we get what we pay for ...I like it though. I never have been creeped out. I am NOT a great writer like some of these gals but do like to post new pics and like that. You should do it Rebekah..its easy. So far I have stuck with it. It try to post at least once a week...sometimes more. Depends on what I have going on.
