Posted - Aug 06 2012 : 7:21:24 PM My Sweet Loving Husband bought a beautiful Loom for me two and a half years ago. I have been wanting one forever. It is sooo wonderful but because we have been in a lease house in the process of building our Dream Home for the past 3 years it is still in storage unused.
Well our home is almost finished ( this month infact--August) and the Loom will be going into my beautiful new studio with lots of natural light. However, I don't know to use the loom and I don't know anyone here in St. Franciville, LA who does either. Is there a Farmgirl Sister out there who could help me in some way?

Posted - Sep 19 2012 : 12:16:53 PM Brenda - the same offer goes to you. I have a 4-shaft LeClerc as well, and they are easier to use than you think. Weaving is time consuming, but once you get the hang of it, it's simple. Let me know what I can do to help!

Posted - Sep 18 2012 : 6:25:11 PM Suzanne, I am his similar situation as I have just purchased a 4-harness leclerc floor loom and although I am itchy to get started with it,I am also afraid of it. Not as nice of a loom as yours, I am sure...

Posted - Sep 18 2012 : 07:05:27 AM Suzanne - I am a weaver, and I do have a floor loom. I'm in NW Louisiana, and if you really need some help, I may be able to head down to St. Francisville and help you. In the mean time, see if you can find a copy of Deborah Chandler's Learn To Weave. It's a fairly straightforward book that will teach you how to warp your loom and use it. I will say that measuring your warp and doing the calculations you need to do in order to determine how long the warp needs to be and how many warp threads you will need can get tricky. The other thing I can recommend if you're a traveling girl is to contact Regina at Rosepath Weaving and see if you can set up a time with her to sit down and have her explain the basics. She is out of Tyler, Texas and may be able to help (it's where I get all my weaving supplies). There's a lot to tell you about this, so if you would rather talk on the phone, email me with your number and the best time to call you, and I'll see what I can do to help. I AM SO GLAD you are learning to weave! I can also recommend some other books and the Handwoven magazine, if you really get into this. I'll look forward to hearing from you!!!

Posted - Sep 12 2012 : 5:35:03 PM Hello Farm Girl Sisters
It took me a really long time to get our house finished and the storage unit unpacked. The loom is a standard 46" wide Schacht Floor Loom. It has lots of accessories (I have no idea what they are for) I am completely lost. I really want to learn how to use this beautiful loom but I am very scared of trying now that I have given it a good look and I can't find any books to follow.

Posted - Aug 07 2012 : 10:06:58 AM I know you are in Louisiana; however I took classes at a shop called The Fiber Factory in Mesa, AZ. Maybe they can give you some instructions?? I had a wonderful time in the classes and they are very knowledgable. Here is their web site. http://fiberfactory.com/
Best always.

Posted - Aug 07 2012 : 09:25:10 AM I will get my husband to get all the information from the loom and post it. It is a floor loom with its own bench. It measures about 4feet across and sits approx. 3ft. tall and 3ft deep. I will have all the exacts in the next day or so. Thank you ladies for the responses.

Posted - Aug 07 2012 : 06:13:10 AM If it is a floor style weaving loom, you MIGHT be able to watch a youtube video. But, there is nothing easy about warping a loom. Good luck tho. Once you learn it, you can really make some beautiful pieces with it.
