Got a job (YEAH!)

But now I have to find a place and orchestrate a move in a week or less . . . . and all in a house with no AC while temps are in the mid-upper 90s all week. Ick.

Any tips or tricks, ladies?

Sounds exciting (although alot of work I am sure).

I moved from Denver out to Eagle County, so about two hours away from where I was. Close enough to go back and hang out with my friends that are still there once every month or two.

Congratulations. I am excited for your Housewarming party. Hopefully you will meet some new friends. Where did you move to and what is your new job?

I hope so too. As you see above, I moved to Eagle County where I will be a children's librarian for a local public library branch. That is what I went to school for, so I'm very happy to be getting started. And also glad that I got to stay in CO. Though I had looked for (and even interviewed for a couple) jobs out of state, my first choice was always to stay in CO somewhere. It's my home.

Amy, You are smart to dive right in and invite your neighbors over. It is so much nicer when you know one another. Best of luck to you! I am sure things will work out. When you have your heart in the right place, things will go your way!

We'll that didn't take long. Here's the article.

I wrote it back in 2009, so I may need to go back and update it, but here it is: Essential Moving Tips: http://www.helium.com/items/1362835-moving-tips

Call around for free boxes - grocery stores, liquor and cigarette stores, etc. Then recycle them after the move. I moved twice and got better each time. I'm still finding things that I could have let go.

Label boxes as you put stuff in them. We used index cards, so we could pack more in them.

I think I wrote an article on moving tips, but will have to find it for you.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away..

I did a lot of downsizing - donated furniture, clothes, electronics - lots of stuff I didn't use. Anything in too shabby condition to donate got trashed - but I think I may need to downsize yet more now that I'm here. May also need to rent a small storage locker to put my Christmas decorations and keepsake boxes in. I don't have room to store them in the house, but I also don't want to throw them away.

Starting to unpack things now though. I've got about a week and a half before my new job starts to get things all unpacked. Hosting a house warming party the Saturday before I start.

GOOD LUCK on your move & job. Like the ladies said, DOWNSIZING is the key ;)

Use small boxes! You may end up with more boxes, but it'll be much easier on your back. My husband learned this the hard way. :)

Good luck!! When I moved a couple years back had to downsize as well. It's hard, but I think it's worth it

My recommendation is to downsize ruthlessly. Haven't used it in a year- get rid of it or set it aside for a garage sale. Then I would do a garage sale over Thursday, Friday, Saturday with really good prices and watch stuff fly.

Also I would do the bulk of work and packing in early morning and at night so you can take advantage of the cooler temps- try to rest through the heat of the day if you can.

We have downsized a lot in each of our moves and I honestly can say that the ONLY thing I have regretted getting rid of is the rocker we had for Nora when she was a baby- but that being said I had no place for it either.

Good luck, I guess now would be a good time to get rid of anything you don't need, mark all the boxes so you can put them in the room where they belong as you move.
