I was cutting up a tomato this morning to put on Nora's sandwich for lunch. We had two tomatoes ripeing on the window sill. I cut into the first one and apparently we left it too long because the seeds were sprouting! So I cut open the second and same thing! I honestly had never seen the seeds sprout inside the tomato before- it makes sense I suppose, but wow- weird!

I've had that happen once or twice. It was still a good tomato.

It's called vivipary and Alee is right it is from the fruit being warm. The tomato acts like a greenhouse to the seeds! Weird, huh. It's happened to me, too.

I figured it is because the tomatoes got so warm after becoming fully ripe.

I had that happen once too! It is weird, I questioned whether I should eat it and then said why not?
