...to my house, that is. I locked myself out and forgot that my spare key wasn't in the garage. I got a hammer and tried to break the glass in the garage door leading to the house but I couldn't break the glass. It was late but I noticed my neighbors--Biker Babe and Tattoo Guy--were still up. so I knocked on there door and Tattoo Guy came over to try to break the glass. It took him several tries but he finally broke it. Then the door could be unlocked. I thanked him profusely because I don't think I could have broken the glass without it flying everywhere. I guess you can't judge a book by it's cover. I'm going to make sure that spare key is always where it's supposed to be. I put a large sheet of plexi-glass over the hole to keep the bugs out. I think I got all the broken glass up, and I used my shop vac to pick up any slivers. I guess I'd make a bad burglar.

I am bad about losing my keys. Now I have one of those door locks that have buttons to push. My family thought it would help me stop locking myself out. It works well except when the kids change the code and I have to remember a new one... or when the batteries start to run down and the door becomes reluctant to let me in.
I remember someone telling me that they worked at a place where they had to use their thumbprint to unlock the door. One day he couldn't get the computer to work right so he just pulled himself up to the ceiling and crawled through the ductwork to the other side. So much for security measures!

I have locked myself out before it is not fun. I still did not learn and hide a key. I think now that I have read your story I will.

Glad you had neighbors to help. Happy you were able to get in your house.

Ah Cindy! I've locked myself out before, luckily it was during the day in summer, and we have a spare key right outside the door. But it does make for a good story!

We've done that several times at the old house! What a gut wrenching sound when you hear the door shut behind you and you realize you don't have your keys! When MIL was still alive she'd rescue us with a spare key (only lived about 5 blocks away). One time DH had to kick in and then crawl into a tiny basement window. That's when we finally got smart and hid a key on the property. I wrapped it in a food saver bag and we used it a couple of times. Haven't hidden a key at the new place and not quite sure where I think it should go, I'm paranoid that I'll hide it in the very place a burglar will know to look (under the door mat, etc).

Glad you got in safely!

Oh man, that sounds like the bad start to a long night. So sorry to hear of your problem. but, it is cool that you got to meet Tattoo Guy! Being locked out is terrible.
