This morning my dd, dh, and I were watching the news and drinking coffee when a story came on (somewhere in the tri-state area). In the story, this grown man became sickened and thought he had an appendicitis. He went to the ER only to be told he would be dead soon if they did not operate. They found a piece of metal he swallowed, looking like a nail. Turned out, it was a sliver of metal that had come loose from his metal grill brush! How easy would that be for that to happen to any of us! The newscaster says throw 'em out and use either a grill stone, or half a lemon. My dh promptly threw ours away.

That's it! Our's is going in the garbage! I would've never thought...but it makes sense...sitting out in the elements & the scrubbing wears those bristle down to come off! I think I'll pass on me and my family getting those in our bodies! Thank you for the heads up!

Danielle,
How scary! More common than I would have thought! Wonder how many people have had this happen?

Yes, something similar happened like that locally. I heard that this poor man actually died from the bristle puncturing him. So sad.

I'm so busy I don't know if I just found a rope or lost my horse!

I heard that on the news too. I have one but I just use it to scrub and scrape the birdbath! *giggle*

Thanks Nini! I looked at ours before throwing it out...it had some bristles missing. Yikes! Another way to repurpose one that isn't all dirty and used is to use it to make pom-poms in knitting.

OH! I love that idea, Paula! Thank you!

Nicole - one of my girlfriends from back home just emailed me. She said she saw a similar story on "The Doctors." They said that this is actually a very common occurrence, and they really want to get the word out about how hazardous this tool really is. Thank you, again, for sharing!

Hugs -

Nothing works as good as a ball of wadded up aluminum foil to clean a gunky grill. I learned that trick from Martha Stewart years ago and my husband gets our charcoal grill grate shiny clean just using the foil. In fact it is a great way to re-purpose used foil...it doesn't have to be straight out of the box to do a good job.

Oh my gosh, that's horrible... I'll be pitching mine as soon as I get downstairs. We rarely use it anyway - we usually soak our grill in the sink and let the yuck melt off. But I'm so glad you shared this, Nicole... I'm going to let our friends and family know, too! Hugs - Nini

Our brush thankfully fell apart just from being left outside in the elemants. We have a grill scrubby.
And are fresh out of propane for the moment :(

For part of fahter's day think I'll get a scrubby for my dad so I don't have to worry about him and my mom either

Thanks!

Wow Nicole! Yes, I could easily see that happening! Wow, thanks for the information, I like the idea of a lemon and/or stone to clean it with.
