I'm heading to Albany tomorrow and then renting a car and driving about an hour and a half south close to Woodstock. Is there anything I should put on my list of things to see?

Thank you for the information. I didn't have as much time to explore as I thought I would. The airline cancelled my flight when I got to the airport. It took me a day longer to get there than planned. I did love Woodstock and Rinebeck. I don't think I have ever seen a town as charming as Rinebeck. It was amazing. It turns out Rinebeck is were my class was being held. I took a call at the Omega Institute with the woman who wrote the book "The Artist's Way".
Thank you for the tips of places to see. I know I will be going back for more clasees.

Marianne is right. Also down Rte 9 in the Rhinebeck area is the FDR Home & Museum and one of the Vanderbilt mansions. They both have beautiful grounds and gardens.

Woodstock is kindof in the middle of no-where. I live in an area similar also but it is hard to give you anything near there to see. The area south of Albany along the Hudson in the Catskill mountains is beautiful! The Culinary Institute of America is there and West Point which even if you are not Military is awsome. Lots of little towns with antique shops etc.
Rhinebeck is just North of that on route 9 and is a quaint town with great food and antiques.

North of Albany, is the Adirondack Mountains, also beautiful and full of lakes.

1/2 hour north of Albany is Saratoga where the races are and one of the oldest race tracks in the country, cute town great shopping and great food.
Have fun!
