I can't believe we have only been on the road for a week. We have already driven 2900 miles!
We are finally into Arizona. How I love it here.I love the openness and that you can see for miles and miles and cars are scarce. Today we went to Canyon De Chelly for a 3 hour private tour through the canyon. THis is Navaho land so you MUST have a guide. We saw old dwelling and storage spaces carved into the rocks. We saw pictographs carved into the rock..and horses and sheep. What I did not know is that there are apple and cherry trees there and they grow wheat and beans and squash on the canyon floor. About 3000 Indians live in the canyon year round. It is so desulate and bare and quiet. The cliffs are SO high and are streeked with black, brown and white from the minerals in the rock. It is amazing to see how the wind has shaped those huge sandstone walls over eons of time. AND I ate Frybread which is so bad for you but I love it. Tomorrow we head for petrefied forrest. I'll keep you posted. Joey

My husband and I were married one year when we moved from Monterey, CA to New Rochelle, NY. We drove across country in a Mazda pick-up with no air conditioning or radio! I remember Minnesota being beautiful and South Dakota just never ended, but boy was Mt. Rushmore something to see! Stopping for Chicago style pizza in Chicago. So many memories! HAVE FUN.

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away..

I hear the light way out west is incredible-I took oodles of photos on our trip to South Dakota, because I just couldn't get over the LIGHT! The blue sky was incredibly azure blue....and then there was the constant wind-I loved every minute of it.

I would LOVE to see Arizona...and feel the HEAT!

It sounds like you are having a wonderful time and seeing so many interesting things-

Keep safe Joey!
