The other day I stumbled across what appeared to be a vintage doily with beads on the outer edge-apparently to weigh the doily down so the wind wouldn't take it-then it was then placed over a water pitcher....you know to keep out bugs, etc. I guess for outdoor picnics, etc.?

Anyway....does anyone have an idea where I could find these charming little treasures? I don't even know what they are called----

Talk to me ladies...

They are pretty!!!! Looks like it would not be too hard to add beads to most doilies. How nice.

Aren't they gorgeous!! I have to do this. There are a few vintage doilies around here that survived my last quilt I made-I used them as embellishments on a vintage hankie quilt I made for my sister.

Thanks for the quick response it was making me nuts-

You could simply sew beads onto doilies from thrift stores or antique stores.

I make mine from hankies. See here:

In my post there is a link to Martha Stewart's site on how to make this particular pattern.

Well, Melody, I don't know what they are called but I plan to just take a doily and do some beading on it myself.
The one we have over our water carafe here (our recent glamping trip) was one I found at a thrift for 25 cents and it had the trim in the center (ribbon, tiny silk flowers and beading) already on it. I hadn't had a chance to bead the edge, but I intend to do that. It would also fit over a pitcher.
