Three nights in a row-all in the wee hours. !st night was a cat toy I had made-she brought that in after 12AM & howled so I'd wake up & see it. Next night she drug a cat toy that has a carpeted wooden base & has a furry ball on a spring. I could sorta hear a clunk clunk clunk but was sleeping pretty hard. That woke me up in the wee hours and she howled so I'd turn on the light & see it. Last night I was working with one of my knitting boards & hadn't quite casted off the entire piece, had set it up on a box,and about 11:30PM I hear this horrible dragging sound & something metallic being drug about. I thought it was my pesky neighbor in his driveway. I hear Sassy cry,I turn on the light, and there's my yarn, knitting board & crochet hook on the bedroom floor. I hope she doesn't start moving my banjos & ukuleles.

I always thank her for her "gifts" and never act upset even if inwardly I'm thinking "oooh noooo" (like I did with the knitting board)
She gets a lift up onto the bed, lots of lovies & she falls asleep purring. What's gotten into her lately I haven't a clue.

Christine, it wasn't too pleasant seeing the top part of a dead rabbit! But the four outside cats were just so excited at me seeing their prize or what they thought they were rewarding me with! Don't you just love cats? I do!!!! They make my day.

True, Bear5, in her own cat way she was soooo proud...I had to conceal my "ew!!" factor...sorry, I know farmgirls are supposed to be tough about such things, but I have a dread fear of mice...

I loved your story! Nothing says "thank you" like dead rabbits strewn all over your space but I'm sure in kitty world it was a complement of the highest nature! LOL

How sweet of Cinder, Christine. We adopted four outside cats in 2005, after a flood. About a month after feeding them, caring for them, etc... I opened the back door to find a half of a dead rabbit. The other half was in my husbands workshop. I thought, those cats are so smart. I'd feed them their food by the back door, and my hubby would give them cat treats in the workshop. They were thanking both of us.

Our cat Cinder brought us a half dead field mouse one afternoon...she trotted up the back walk with the poor thing in her jaws and dropped it proudly at our feet (dh and I were grilling outside)...funny thing was, it was our anniversary and it really looked like she had come to the bbq with a gift!

Sherrie: Your Sassy cat is beautiful! My first cat, Henry Dragon, was a tuxedo cat. Thanks for sharing.

One of our cats used to do that- she would catch hummingbirds and sparrows. How- we could never figure out since she was declawed- but she was so sneaky. Then she would leave her "prize" at the back door for us.

Oh yes, we had cats that would bring us gifts. I heard it's just their way of contributing to the household. The first time a cat brought us a gift it was a dead, smashed crow, bigger than the cat. I was on the phone and heard her at the door so I wondered over and let her in without looking. Out of the corner of my eye I see her dragging this nasty thing into the bedroom and under the bed! And she was sooooo proud! With a different cat we'd wake up in the morning with a dead mouse of two on the bed with us, ew! It's never dull if you live with animals is it?

Good boy Hobbs! I love and miss you.

I went to bed early last night as it was chilly and I got woke up yet again at 11:30PM crying for my attention-she had carried two pieces that I had knit on the knitting board over the weekend. I thanked her & she snoozed w/me the rest of the night. I don't know why she's on this kick but it's nice to know one's appreciated.

My loving kitty, Pearl, used to bring me dead or dying mice and moles as tokens of her affection. The only trouble with that was, she would put them on the bathmat while I was showering! I'm blind as a bat without my glasses and would usually step right on them...ugggh.

Sassy often has a gift for me waiting in the middle of the living room (usually one of my bedroom slippers) when I come home from working at the college-or it could be in the hall,or in the middle of my bedroom floor. She does have her cycles of doing this.

Melina,
Your post made me smile. When we started building our house years ago we moved into in the early stages (only cold running water, some windows covered with plastic). Living there would save rent and give us more working time. We brought along our two dogs and a rescued cat, that's another story. One night I woke up to the cat on our bed, proudly holding a mouse. Eek! But I had the presence of mind to think it was good that she was protecting our home and actually praised her. The next night she brought us a frog. She was bringing them IN for us.

That is so funny! Did she just start doing that? My cats go through phases. When I first got my boy cat, Taja, about 12 years ago, every morning he would wake me up at 6 to feed him. He would bite at my ankles until I made my way into the kitchen to get him his breakfast. He only did that for about a year and then he found another "phase" to go through. I just recently had to move out of my apartment and couldn't take the cats with me. My mom was kind enough to keep them for me until I finish school. Now Taja's new thing is to wake her up by gently pawing her nose. It makes me giggle every time I think of it. Animals are so good for the soul. Thank you for sharing some of Sassy's antics with us!

Our now deceased cat Tilly used to do that very thing! She would leave presents during the night by my DD's door usually a hair tie or something that belonged to Nan and she would also leave little gifts outside my sons bedroom door...Your post brought back sweet memories of our Tilly and made me smile! And here I thought she was the only one who did that!

Oh how sweet of her. The first night we were in this new house my kitty Dylan woke me up at 1:00 a.m just talking and running through all of the new rooms and then jumping up to tell me all about the new place. :)

hugs,
-missy-

How funny, funny, funny. I had a cat that would drag stuff in, only at night, and all the stuff ended up around my neck. I have a wonderful smile now, thanks. I think, Sassy, was wanting you to get out of bed and crochet so she could have company and not be alone. LOL. Thanks for sharing. I, too, would always thank Henry Dragon for his gifts. I got so used to the nightly toy runs that I'd fall asleep.
