ok Farmgirls, I'm going to be a Great Grammy in May and was thinking about getting my Granddaughter-in-love some cloth diapers as disposable are so expensive and they don't have extra money to spend, my question is what kind do you suggest. I know they have come along way since my girls were babies. Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

BumGenius is a good brand too
I made most of Nora's diapers at home using patterns I modified off the internet. You can make them to look just like disposables but be washable. We also did some pin diapers- especially at first.

Thanks everyone for your input - I really appreciate all your help :)! Sorry I have been so long in getting back to you, but have been out of town the last few days.
Wedding dress shopping with my oldest daughter that has been a widow for the last 9 years - we are very excited for her :)! She is marrying a wonderful man, truly a blessing from the Lord!

I'm using several types and I find I like the Grovia the best for everyday use, though I switch to a pocket liner first thing in the morning. The Grovia use an insert that sits against the skin. The messier side of pooping tends to dirty the outer shell too.
Where the pocket liner diapers have to be used only once before washing the Grovia shell can be used with several inserts. I'm luck enough to have a diaper store an hour away. http://www.pamperedbuns.com/ She's been great for any question I've had. Also if you look under the family forum and search there are a lot of discussions on cloth diapers.
Trial and error will be the best way for her to find what works. I hated the grovia velcro at first but then realized I wasn't supposed to put them in the dryer. After that they have been the best.
If you can find a store near you they may have a trial pack that includes several types.

I bought the old fashioned but prefolded flat type for my baby girl. I did alter a bunch of them by addin velcro to the edges so I could just 'throw them on her'. With a snug fittin diaper cover there was no need for other alterations, such as cuttin and sewin them into any shape.
My little one loved to self-remove them when it was time for potty trainin! She really trained herself because she could and she hated the feel of wet diapers!

I know nothing about cloth diapering at this point!

my DIL found some really nice ones. they were velcro and had a liner for the inside. then a cover on the outside. they were preshaped. hope this helps. if your curious i can ask her the web site she got them from. sherrye
