My husband used to play in this rowdy Irish band when we first met, and over the weekend, Violet and I connected with the singer, Roger Drawdy who demanded that she and Justin come down to visit them on the farm one day this week and meet his little girl, Sky and walk the "fairy trails" that he created for Sky, and then the "dads" could play some music. So, Jus and Violet went to visit yesterday, on this gorgeous spring day and took this picture--

Sky told Violet this is the "Knight's horse" which is a tree that is bent down over part of the path that the girls sat on and Roger (the fuzzy guy behind them ) bounced on to make it seem like they were riding.

We don't have any children around us of Violet's age, so this is a real boon for her to meet someone so similar in upbringing--Roger stays home with her while his wife works, very much like Justin stays home with Violet when I'm working, then I'm home with her when he's working. She told me ALL about Sky last night--and Justin said it was very sweet because Sky doesn't have any children around her, either and is an only child and they hugged and held hands and just had a ball.

Happy Spring, everyone!!!!

Your post made me smile, Emily--I hear ya--I love a good Fairy hunt, and having tea party's in the woods!! I am so grateful that she has these days--and we've been told more than once that we're good parents for letting her get dirty, discover the creek and the woods, pick wildflowers, etc...and it makes me very happy that she's found another little girl just like her!

Yes, I think Roger is a really cool stay at home poppa--long before he married, he worked for the Hamilton County Park Board as an arborist, so he has great love for the trees and woodlands in our area. I think both Sky and Violet are very lucky to have dad's like these, and to have one another!

I'm going to "try" not to let the growing season get away from me this year like I did last year and make a fairy house out of Sunflowers like I've seen in garden magazine. Plow and Hearth magazine sells these cute little doors and window that you put on the base of your big trees and it looks like "fairy's" live in the tree. I think I might be ordering a set next payday :)

I have to be honest....I am so happy that Violet found a new friend in Sky but I'm a little bit jealous! Fairy trails? A stream? Beautiful woods to play in?? I feel that even at my age, I can appreciate the "magicalness" of a good fairy hunt. I would be throwing fairy tea parties and making fairy houses! Now this is what a childhood should be. Both Violet and Sky will have very fond, magical childhood memories! And Roger sounds like a fabulous stay at home dad!

I agree--I spent most of my days in the creekbed, hunting for fossils, imaginging that I'd found a rare dinosaur and running from "evil" museum curators who wanted to steal my discovery :) Fairies are a LOT less stressful! My husband and I talked a little more about it last night and he said that though it was great to reconnect with Roger and play some long forgotten music, it was even better to watch those two little girls playing with one another and giggling their little heads off.

Jonni,
This is what magical childhoods are made of! How wonderful for beautiful Violet and Sky!

I'm so happy that this little picture and story made everyone else happy! Violet has talked of nothing else, even including Roger and Sky in her litany of "prayer mentions" before she goes to bed. Apparently, Sky talked her mother's ear off all evening about playing with Violet, too. We will go down to visit again on Sunday and have dinner and the "boys" can play music and the "girls" can visit the fairies again! For me, Spring is really a sense of returning to the things we know and love, whether it be turning the earth or reuniting with old friends. Seems like the Fairies are working some wonderful magic this season!

Justin posted some other pictures, so I thought I'd share these three with you ladies as well.

I've been busy and distracted lately - and haven't taken the time to check out what's happening with everyone. And this is the first story I read in a week or so. Just like everyone else, it made me smile to read about those two little girls holding hands and playing while their dads looked on. Oh happy day. Thank you for sharing... This is what's really important.

What a magical day that must have been for Ms. Violet! A playmate that lives near fairies! What little girl could ask for more? Wonderful story Jonni! I hope Violet can have lots of playdates with her new friend!

Good boy Hobbs! I love and miss you.

That's so great, Jonni. It made me smile and then it made me remember my bff when I was her age. We were inseparable and it was so magical. I'm glad for her. And for Justin.

Thanks, girls--there are some others that my husband took of them holding hands, crossing the creekbed together and he said they would hug each other and fall over on to the grass, giggling and rolling around like little puppies. The thought of that makes me smile--really big!

I think it was a wonderful day for all (well, except mom who was sitting in her basement bunker office at work!)

I hope so, too, Marly--it's also a real blessing to see my husband get back to singing and playing music. He and music have had a bit of a hate/hate relationship the last few years and I think he always enjoyed playing with Roger. So, I'm hopeful that this is a happy start to many things!

I think you're right, Debbie--I was an only child and there were times that it was a little lonely--I did have some neighborhood friends that were girls, but they were much younger. I spent a lot of time with the rowdy boys that rode dirtbikes!!!! It wasn't until 4th grade that I met my BFF who would be my friend all through high school until we lost touch when I moved to England after school.

I hope so, too, Liz--I know you were happy about your move!

Violet really loves kids and can be a little "over zealous" when meeting new children. I think she's so desperate to play that she can startle them a little!
She talked nonstop about Sky, the horsey, the creek, throwing rocks, music, etc...it was really sweet. I think this will be a weekly thing for them, so that will also be really nice.

I adore stories like this! We are kind of in the same boat with Rosemary, but hopefully she can get some new playmates in this neighborhood. She looks like she had a blast!
