This morning on the way to middle school I saw a pine "pantry" table on the side of the road painted the best shade of creamy buttery yellow! My son starts saying "Don't you dare, don't even think about it..." and I notice there are kids he probably knows in the vicinity.
So I pass it by (not happily...) and get him to school. On the way back (kids now gone) I stop and wrestle this thing onto my roof and tie it down. The baby is in his car seat clapping his hands and squealing with glee. (Atleast someone appreciates my industriousness!) Hooray! Found treasure and just right for a game table on our side porch since it has a drawer!

A half-hour early, Nance? We have the professionals come by the night before! I won't sell to them, but I'm ready at least one hour early the morning of the sale for early birds. Have a fanny pack for your money so you can keep it safe and with you at all times. Have a good amount of change. Have a sandwich made ahead of time, in case you get famished and can't get away from the sale. (sales around here are INTENSE!)

Good luck -- wish I could come to your sale!

Randi, you have had advice from the Garage Sale GURU, Nancy Jo. Heed her every word! Also, be prepared for professionals to come early. I had a couple ring the doorbell a half hour early, and I was still in my nightgown and robe, but heck, I let them in and made $35 in five minutes! Also, if you have dishes or breakable items, stash some old newspapers to the side to wrap them in, and maybe have some plastic grocery store bags for people to use. Good luck!! Nance

randi,
If you are going to have a sale, the presentation is a HUGE, Display things with prices on, I have seen things I would like but with no price on and passed them up because I didn't want to bother askng. Don't price to high because this is a yard sale, unless you have something that is of great value. If you have a lot of extra stuff, you know little do dads, put them all on a table together, and say everything on this table is .50 cents, or a dollar, whatever you think. That way you don't have to put a price on every single piece. IF you have a lot of little things you can put them in baggies and say .50 cents per bag. Clothes folded up and placed by size and girl or boy. Hope this helps some.

My mom and I are avid junkers and we always crack up at ourselves when we step back and look at our loaded car/ van. We'll say, "The Beveryly Hillbillies ride again!!" haha You should have seen us on the way to farm fair. That was a hoot. For the first time in my life, I actually couldn't fit something in. Mom found a chair and no matter how hard we tried, it just wouldn't fit. sigh. We had to pick it up on the way back. It's a good thing we don't have a garage otherwise I'd have it all packed full of goodies.

Great find on the table!! I love free!!!!

Blessings,

Missy

My husband has put a couple of bungee cords in my trunk....just in case! My "coffee table" was sitting on the side of the road. It was an ugly, ugly trunk....but was in excellent shape. I brought it home, stripped it, and painted it an off white crackle. It's been our coffee table for twelve years! One persons trash is another persons treasure....chest! Susan

HIGH FIVE BRAMBLE!! And that goes for all my other Creative Curbside Recycling sisters! I do hear the S&Sons theme now that it was mentioned. If I had seen that table, shutters, white elephant, etc. I would have been clutching my heart saying "Look out it's the big one...."! My funniest trash thrashing episode was several years ago when my oldest son was hanging out at his friend's house. Came home and said their elderly next door neighbor had died, and her daughter had flown in from California to empty the house for sale. She paid Joshua $100 to help bag trash and put stuff out for the garbage collection. I asked him if there was any "good" stuff and all I remember hearing was "watering can" before going into a trash trance. As soon as I got home from work the next night my sis and I drove over to unearth some goodies.... Josh was back at his friend's visiting on the front porch.... they walked slowly down the driveway and peered over the boxwood hedge, and I heard my son say, "Man, I never thought I'd see my mother picking through neighbors' garbage!" I looked up and grinned and said "We're burning daylight; get over here and hoist that in the trunk, will ya?" Not exactly a "Hallmark moment" but we still laugh about it! Keep on junkin'! Nance

Once I got, and I swear this is the truth, a white elephant beside the road. It was a wicker table shaped like an elephant with a saddle thing on it's back that was the table top. It even had tusks. My daughter and I walked down the street and walked it home after we passed it on our way home. She had it in her room for years and then it lived on the back porch. It even had marble eyes. So when people say they are going to a white elephant sale, I always think of my white elephant driveby find!

Peace

My husband has collected quite a few things from the side of the road - a push lawn mower that just needed a new air filter or some such thing, a LOOOONG garden hose, and I don't know what all else. He and his brother tell some tales of what they find - they are both really into finding treasures!

So I can't believe you found a table! Cool!

Bramble,
Where is it you live exactly? I Think I would love your yellow table! And baby gets a big star for clapping. We need all the support we can get when putting tables on car roofs.

Bramble you're my kind of gal! If it's sitting by the side of road it's fair game. Missy and & were doing the annual garage sales in our town and I saw this red cabinet sitting on the curb. It was an TV cabinet that has a free sign on it. It's now sitting under my carport waiting a coat of paint.

I have the habit of picking up all sorts of things. I had found this great dinner table at IKEA for 99.00 but I refused to pay 35.00 per chair so one day as my good friend was driving down the road she spied a set of 6 chairs for FREE! So she stops and has her 14 year old son help her load them into her truck. I was so excited when she stops by and there are my chairs for my new table! My family jokes with me if we pass anything on the road- "look mom, you could make that into a living room set...." ha ha. But you know they are right!

Atleast I'm not driving that truck! You girls crack me up! And now I'm going to be out there pushing giant shutters through my windows so I look like an airplane!

Whoo hoo!!! You lucky girl! That's quite a find!
I remember a quite a few years ago, I was taking the kids to their Wed. night church activity and there on the side of the road were 2 sets of HUGE shutters. I just had to stop. The sounds that came from the back of the van were pathetic- "Mom, don't! They'll see you. Oh my gosh- WHAT are you going to do with those?"
I used them to make shelving for the booth I had at an antique mall, that's what I did with them!!
I just love when you find something that you need when you don't expect to!
